Description

Blackthorn Gate comprises four lodges situated in a working farm on the edge of North York Moors. The lodges are set in a grassed area adjacent to woodland, approximately 200m from the fishing ponds.

The larger lodges, Lapwing and Skylark, have two stories, while the smaller lodges, Curlew and Chaffinch, are one-story buildings. All lodges have the same facilities in them: fully fitted kitchen, en-suite bathroom in the main bedroom, main bathroom with sauna, and living/dining room with flat screen TV, Freeview, DVD and stereo.

The living area looks out onto the edge of the N.York Moors. Immediately adjacent to the lodges is part of the sixteen acres of new woodland planted. The farm has become a haven for wildlife. Badgers, foxes, deer, birds and otters populate the area. This is one of four places in the area that serve as a habitat for oyster catchers and barn owls.

The nearest beaches are at Redcar (11 miles away) and Saltburn (12 miles away). Saltburn is popular among surfers. Whitby is 28 miles away and is a very popular destination which can be reached either by car or by train from Nunthorpe station (2 miles away).

For people interested in wildlife and photography, short introductory courses can be arranged at an extra cost. Fishing is available exclusively to those who hold a fishing licence.

The nearest shops include Nunthorpe Spar (2 miles), Stokesley Co-Op (4 miles), and Coulby Newham Tesco (extra 4 miles). The nearest banks are found in Stokesley.

Nearby restaurants include Tree Bridge Hotel (2 miles,) Whinstone View Bistro (3 miles), Kings Head (4.0 miles), and Pinchinthorpe Hall, which has its own micro brewery (5 miles). The lodges are also near sports centres and swimming pools at Stokesley (4 miles) and Coulby Newham (4 miles). There are also clinics at Nunthorpe (2 miles).
