Description
Comfortable, very well equipped apartment (90.5 sq. meter + 45 sq. meter terraces) with stunning views over the ancient spa village of Vernet Les Bains & Mount Canigou. Located 45 minutes west of Perpignan in the Pyrénées-Orientales, Languedoc-Roussillon.
Entry is into the hallway, from which most of the other rooms are accessed. Immediately to the right is the sitting / dining room, with views through patio windows, on to the large, sunny terrace & the Canigou beyond. This room contains a six-seater dining table, several comfortable chairs, a sofa, satellite television & radio/CD/cassette player as well as a large & well-stocked bookshelf with an eclectic selection of books.
Off the dining room is the well-fitted kitchen with plenty of work-surfaces, fridge-freezer, oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and electric kettle. There is also a dining table. Conveniently, the kitchen also has patio doors leading straight onto the terrace.
This large, sunny terrace has plenty of space for dining alfresco or simply soaking up the sun & the view (not to mention the local wine). There is a built-in BBQ & adjacent marble sink. Also leading from the sitting room, up 2 stairs, is the main bedroom. This room is large and comfortably furnished with a double bed and futon. This room has wooden floors and patio doors leading onto the covered terrace.
From the other side of the hallway, a door to the left leads to a bedroom equipped with bunk beds. This room has patio doors out on to a pleasant patio with flower borders. Further along the hall, again on the left is the bathroom, with bath, shower, wash basin and toilet. Next to the bathroom is a separate toilet and hand basin. At the end of the hallway is a further large bedroom, carpeted and comfortably furnished with twin beds. This room has a lovely view of the mountains, particularly at sunrise.
The apartment has central heating, with new electric boiler installed May,2005.
Below the apartment is a cave containing a washing machine & tumble dryer, with lots of storage space for bikes, skis, etc.

Vernet Les Bains has 3 outdoor pools (a deep pool with diving board, a children's pool and a paddling pool for the very young), an indoor pool, Municipal Park & children's play areas. Clean spring water is used for the pools, which are just a five minute walk down the road from Villa des Mines. Other sporting facilities within the village include tennis courts, an equestrian centre & boules. In addition to the naturally occurring volcanic hot springs and treatments of the Spa Centre there is an aqua gym, sauna, Jacuzzi etc. Vernet Les Bains has a special status as an Arboretum Village, with over 200 species of tree spread around the village. Three mornings a week there is a bustling market, held in the village centre, where you can buy local produce. There is a wide range of shops, 3 café-bars & 6 restaurants, with many more in neighbouring villages. There is a sizeable fresh water beach with lake swimming at Vinca, some 15-20 minutes drive from Vernet. Natural rock pools in the Rotja river near Sahorre (known locally as Sahorre beach), provide another scenic bathing area and you can swim by the waterfalls - Cascades des Anglais (these are significantly cooler!), just above Vernet. There are several thermal spas in the area, of which a particular favourite is the open air, naturally warm, St. Thomas Les Bains. Also there is a Water Theme Park at Err which opens during the summer months. The glorious sandy beaches of the Mediterranean are less than an hour away by car - St.Cyprien and Argeles and a little further along the coast, the picturesque port towns of Collioure and Banyuls.

Situated 45 minutes west of Perpignan in the foothills of the Pyrénées, Vernet Les Bains is an ancient spa village with a wide range of facilities making it a wonderful location to holiday or take a short break.
Vernet Les Bains is approximately 45 mins from Perpignan with daily low-cost flights from RyanAir amongst others. The Spanish border is about 40 mins away.
Other easily accessible airports serviced by low-cost carriers are Barcelona-Girona (1hr 40mins); Barcelona (2 hrs 40mins); Carcassone (2 hrs);Toulouse (2 hrs 40mins); Montpellier (2 hrs 40mins); Nîmes (3 hrs). There are also daily flights to Perpignan from Paris (Orly).
