St. Lawrence with it's 12th Century church, the second smallest in England, is situated on the warm south coast of the island. Nearby the Victorian town of Ventnor has a Mediterranean feel, built on a series of terraces, its roads lead to the safe and popular beach. Here the local fishermen land catches of the finest Lobster and Crab, which can be sampled at one of the many excellent restaurants and pubs. Between Ventnor and St. Lawrence lie the unique Botanic Gardens where many exotic plants from all over the world grow in the temperate climate prevalent in this part of the island. From the Gardens a path takes you down to Steephill Cove, ideal for children to explore the rock pools at low tide. To the West of the lighthouse lie St. Catherine's Lighthouse and the theme park, Blackgang Chine.
Whatever time of the season you come there are events to suit everyone. From the Walking Festival in early Spring to Cowes Week in August, the round the Island Yacht Race in June when some 1,700 yachts pass the Park sailing downwind with multi - coloured spinnakers set, The Garlic Festival, summer shows and fetes, open-air classical and jazz nights and much, much more. For those who enjoy walking there are 500 miles of sign-posted rights of way, 64 miles of coastal paths and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which cover more than half of the Island. Golfers can enjoy seven courses spread across the Island from Freshwater in the West to Ryde in the East. From castles and abbeys, Roman villas, historic houses, museums, including the Dinosaur Museum, parks and gardens there is so much to see and do that you will want to come time and time again! For the children there are activities galore, miles of beaches, theme parks and much much more.
