Set in an idyllic village location with two welcoming Inns serving good food and real ales. Surrounded by mountains with fantastic walks from the doorstep, Hardknott Cottage is cosy and charming with oak beams, exposed stonework and doors leading to patio with garden furniture, barbecue and glorious fell views. Shared paddock with riverside picnic spot. Hardknott Cottage is the largest of our one bedroom cottages, with a spacious open plan living area downstairs and bedroom upstairs.

Hardknott Cottage is our largest cottage sleeping 2 and we can add a cot or fold away bed or both for families with young children. It has weekly bookings commencing on a Sunday. If you are looking for a short break please book Whillan Beck or Wrynose Cottages which currently fearture short breaks through the school holidays. Whillan Beck Cottage sleeps 2 and Wrynose Cottage sleeps 2 plus child or baby.

This is the heart of the Lake District National Park with the highest, deepest, steepest, and oldest! Within walking distance are Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain, dramatic Wastwater, its deepest lake, Hardknott Pass, its steepest road and Boot Mill, its oldest working water mill. It is a very special area for walkers with many of the finest walks in England on the doorstep.
The Ravenglass and Eskdale narrow gauge steam railway is one of England's most beautiful train journeys and it has its terminus just ¼ mile our Cottages. This is a very popular attraction and a great day out for all the family.
Eskdale Mill just over the packhorse bridge from Bridge End Farm is England's oldest working twin-wheel corn mill on the site of a Roman mill. Take a trip back in time to a museum like no other. It is on our doorstep and we thoroughly recommend a visit.
Muncaster Castle was voted best tourist attraction in England in 2004. It lies at the gateway to Eskdale, easily accessed by car or the steam railway and a short walk. It is 800 years old, full of interesting features, is supposedly haunted, has spectacular and colourful gardens and is the major rescue centre for the World Owl Trust with many rare and beautiful owls.

Directions:
From the SOUTH depart the M6 at Junction 36. The quickest route is to Broughton in Furness then through Ulpha and over Birker Moor. If coming from the NORTH exit the M6 at Carlisle, then take the A595 to Cockermouth, Egremont and then to Gosforth. Head up to Eskdale from the West. Driving times from Manchester - 2Hrs, Birmingham - 3Hrs and London - 5Hrs
