In days of old, an arrow from a longbow would have reached South Cottage, so close is it to nearby Glamis Castle. Sleeping up to four, South Cottage lies within five minutes by car from all the shops of Kirriemuir, but sits conveniently on a quiet side road, amid the fertile farmland of the famous Vale of Strathmore. The odd farm tractor trundles by.
Only fields and the Sidlaw hills frame the views from this traditional farm cottage of warm red sandstone, which is richly packed with rows of Victorian and Edwardian tiles, antique furniture and unusual images of wildlife. Many years of happy collecting and a passion about wildlife lies within for the enjoyment of visitors. This is hardly surprising, as the owner is a ghillie. Bob was born in this area and has built up a lifetime's experience. There can be nothing about the wildlife here he is unlikely to know. His knowledge and appreciation of the surrounding nature fills South Cottage.
The kitchen sports tiles of stags battling, ceramic curly sheep storage jars bring a wide grin to guests and especially children, who can snuggle down under eiderdowns on Victorian iron and brass beds. Privacy in the bathroom window is provided by a leaded window filled with a red deer. Plates are adorned with swooping birds.
The cottage has been imaginatively extended giving lots of space inside, and the garden, packed with flowering plants, has plenty of places to sit outside.
South Cottage is but half a mile away from Littleton of Airlie, so within easy reach for advice, assistance and a special garden visit to owner Yvonne Mallet's remarkable walled garden, whose expertise in managing property stretches back many years. You will be in safe hands.

By day stroll along the miles of white sands, frothy waves and azure sky of Lunan Bay, or amble on crisp frosty paths under a canopy of Scotland's famous big trees, and miles of hedgerows. Experience leisurely visits where shopkeepers are happy to pass the time of day, and relaxed driving with a few farm tractors on otherwise empty roads. No two days will feel the same.
In the evenings, view the ever-changing sunsets from a snug interior. Even in deepest winter, the remarkable garden outside throws up many surprises. Early bulbs, sparkling dew covered webs or icy seedheads, with birds enjoying a deep winter feast.
Candlelit dinners, whispering branches outside, occasional clear moonlit evenings and the best of warm, comfortable beds and soft bedding.
