The house is situated on a family-friendly green where lots of young children play and has a large secluded garden with extra accommodation available in the summerhouse at no extra charge. Huxhams Cross is very conveniently located for all local amenities. Perfect for family holidays, couples and short breaks.

Add in fine food and wine, friendly country pubs, superb walking and countless opportunities for great days out and it’s easy to see why so many visitors have formed a lasting affection for this most southernly corner of Devon.

The South Hams enjoys one of the mildest year-round climates on mainland Britain. As a consequence, summer stretches out that bit further, hard winters are almost non-existent and spring invariably arrives earlier than in the rest of the country. And that means, whether you want a “green” holiday, traditional summertime holiday, an out of season break or even a winter weekend, the South Hams will always be somewhere special.

The coast is deeply indented by river estuaries, providing safe moorings for boats and refuge too for migrating birds. The Exe estuary in particular is an important stopping off site and the great sand spit of Dawlish Warren and the freshwater Slapton Ley are special havens for wildlife. Don't miss the Teign and the Avon estuaries - their mussels and oysters are legendary, while the Dart estuary, often described as "the most beautiful in all England", has been a magnet to sailors for centuries. Arts and crafts have been a traditional strength in the Westcountry for hundreds of years and rural skills like drystone walling, hurdlemaking, hedgelaying, cob and thatch building, have all enjoyed a renaissance in recent times.

The mild climate of South Devon means gardens flourish here and a visit to some of them to see rare, and even tropical plants is a must..

Totnes is a glorious spot in South Hams, with easy access to the English Riviera and historic Exeter and Plymouth as well as nearby picture postcard harbour village Dartmouth. Totnes takes pride in it's Green Tourism approach, and there's a bohemian and alternative feel to the superb high street, lined with organic food shops, choice vegetarian and vegan cafes and restaurants and some Devon arts and crafts specialist shops you'll spend hours in!

Totnes has a fascinating history as well. It's an ancient market town which began life as a fortified Saxon settlement and served as protection against Viking invasion along the upper Dart River. Totnes Castle is a good example of a motte and bailey, and was built just after the Norman conquest. Also in Totnes is the interesting Elizabethan Museum, an Elizabethan building itself. Today Totnes has a radical kick if you like, with it's resident community of writers, therapists, musicians, and herbalists.
