recommended The property is nestled in its own little valley surrounded by sunflowers and rolling wooded hills with no immediate neighbours. But best of all, although quiet, it is only a a short walk to a fantastic restaurant and minutes by car to the lovely village of Auvillar (listed as one of the prettiest in France) and on the famous walking route Saint Jacques de Compostelle. The bastide village is medieval but also has traces of roman occupancy. Its beautiful views from the look out take in the River Garonne that runs from Bordeaux to Toulouse as well as the Garonne valley with its little villages and orchards for which this region is famous. |
| Local leisure activities |
We have a number of leisure activities on site, however there is a large 400ha lake within 10 minutes which caters for most water sport activities, a small light aircraft aero club and many chateaux and pretty villages to discover all within a short drive

A perfect holiday
We have just returned from a week at the beautiful home of Allison and Nick Feeley at Le Farat, near Bardigue. It was our first visit to the Midi-Pyrenees region of southwest France and we certainly struck lucky selecting Le Farat – it had everything we could possibly have wished for.
We arrived after an easy 45 minute drive along the A62 motorway from Toulouse Blagnac Airport to a very friendly welcome from Nick and Allison.
Throughout our stay, nothing was too much trouble for them and they were able to provide loads of local information. Le Farat is very close to Auvillar, one of the most beautiful villages in France and just a short drive from Valence, Moissac and the lovely village of Lauzerte.
As we travelled with friends we had elected to stay in their spacious gîte. The accommodation is superb and so spacious. The bedrooms were huge and the beds so comfortable. Both had beautiful en-suite bathrooms and the bedrooms were separated by a lovely lounge and dining area with a new fully fitted kitchen. We had our own private patio but preferred to spend time lounging around their beautiful swimming pool.
Although we had never stayed in a gîte of such quality, had we travelled alone, we would have stayed in their B&B in the main house. The B&B accommodation is superb – not just a beautiful bedroom with en-suite bathroom but a luxury suite with a private lounge and dining area and a private garden overlooking their lake.
Whether you are looking for a quiet destination in which to just relax or a base from which to explore, it is an excellent location and we would thoroughly recommend Le Farat.
Our stay was a memorable one and we can’t wait to return next year.
Excellent holiday in a beautiful location
My wife and I were holidaying with friends at Le Farat. We were the first guests for Allison and Nick and we were all made very welcome.
The accommodation is spacious and furnished to a very high standard. We have taken our holidays in France for many years now and le Farat must be one the best gites we have stayed in.
The area has a lot to offer as well; Auvillar is a beautiful village only a few minutes drive away and there is a fantastic market at Valence d'Agen every Tuesday. The house is only about 10 minutes from the autoroute. We got the TGV to Bordeaux; about 2 hours drive away.
The surrounding countryside is beautiful with several good walks from the house and many more just a little further afield.
Le Farat itself boasts fantastic grounds including a lovely swimming pool and a fishing lake. I spent several early mornings fishing there (thanks to Nick) which was simply idyllic.
It was also good to be able to reacquaint ourselves with the wine cooperative at St Sardos which we had visited some years before.
All in all an excellent holiday location which I have no hesitation in recommending. We are already thinking of returning next year.
A beautiful place to relax and unwind
Our first time at Le Farat in April was fabulous and deciding to return for our summer holiday was a great decision! Once again we could experience the breathtaking scenery, gorgeous villages, great food, wine and with the sun beating down, life was great! Experiencing real French village life and vast amounts of wine tasting really relaxed us! In fact so relaxed, most evenings horizontal after wine tasting and rating the local bottles of wine we brought! We visited the village of San Sardos on a Sunday morning where they had a Vide Grenier (Boot sale) and wine tasting at the local Cave (wine cellar). Well when in France! The atmosphere at San Sardos was truly magical and so was the wine!
The accommodation at Le Farat is beautiful. The rooms have been finished to extremely high standards and Allison and Nick (our hosts) have spent lots of time on attention to detail. Sourcing antique French furniture and sumptuous linens really gives both the gite and bed and breakfast room a classical chic feel.
We enjoyed many evenings on the patio drinking and chatting to our hosts, who we have to say are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. If you want to really get away from it all, Le Farat is the place to go. You will not be disappointed! We are already planning our next visit!
A slice of the "Real" France
Wow... what a holiday. We have just returned from two weeks at Le Farat and could not have had a better stay. Having been hardened "Gite go-ers" over the last ten years one has to say that this was something special. Set in its own beautiful grounds I had to keep pinching myself to believe I was actually there. The accomodation for "Maison du Soliel" was perfect for us, being roomy, well equipped and above all "cool" in the summer heat. The swimming pool was modern, clean and perfect for our family needs.
The area was delightful as only just down the road was the pretty village of Auvillar with its bustling market on a Sunday to which all the world seemed to be drawn. Not much further afield was the market town of Valence D'Agen which hosted a vibrant market every Tuesday full of vibrant colour, pungent smells of herbs and spices and fresh market produce "to die for".
Best of all, however, was probably the location. Set just to the the south east of Agen, it was easily accessible from Toulouse, Bordeaux or Agen and enabled us to sample "real "france: a france that mixes chic culture with the world of the "paysan". We loved sampling wine at St Sardos ( a village with an international wine groing reputation) nearby. Sampling armagnac from a Chateaux near Condom was also a highlight.
In addition, there were a number of tremendous country walks nearby that cater for old softies(like me) to hardened pilgrims. Just listening to the peace of the countryside was a huge plus after a summer of city-life.
However, what was best of all was the fun and enjoyment we all had self-catering, trying different local produce and (in my case) developing our range of cooking. It was two weeks of goumet food and wine: brilliant.
Finally I'd like to thank Nick , Allison and family for being perfect hosts. They were there when needed (offering advice or help) and unobtrusive at other times when we just wanted family time.
I'd recommend this experience to anyone who wishes perhaps to dip a toe into France's crystal clear waters or equally for those who wish to dive in and enjoy the swim
Allison Feeley
