The lodge is a traditionally built cabin constructed from Scottish douglas fir logs. The property has an open living area with two main bedrooms and two additional beds in the loft area. The log-stove provides a focal point as well as heating water very efficiently. The fully-equipped kitchen has an electric Belling cooker with fan-assisted oven, a Whirlpool fridge and microwave. An upright freezer is available for your use in the outbuilding should you need it. However, if you don't feel like cooking there are many excellent restaurants locally. The lodge is situated 800m up the forest track in a position of total privacy within a large clearing in the forest. The small lochan and burn provide a haven for birds and can be seen from the lodge. The spacious outdoor decking area is ideal for sitting out in the pure Highland air and watching some of our fantastic wildlife. We commonly have visits from Sika, red and roe deer, red squirrels, woodpeckers, owls and pine martens. Come and enjoy the amazing scenery - fantastic in all seasons of the year - listen to the burn running by or the wind blowing gently through the silver birch leaves. In spring, the cuckoos can be heard during the day. In October the stags roaring are primevally awesome. 500m beyond the lodge is a magnificent loch with stunning views to the mountains beyond.

necessary Mellness Forest Lodge is situated in 440 acres of private woodland at the head of magnificent Glen Urquhart. It is ideally located for both exploration of the Highlands or as a retreat to get away from it all (or for a mixture of both!) This is an excellent place to bring children with good amenities nearby. An amazing opportunity to let them see Scotland's native wildlife and to run wild in natural surroundings. Three stunning Glens to explore and lots of varied sporting opportunities will ensure that you are never bored! The magnificent Loch ness is on the doorstep - only 10 minutes drive away and Inverness is only 40 minutes away by car. |

This woodland provides varied and interesting stalking opportunities. The majority of the trees were planted over birch scrub in the mid 1960's. Recent restructuring has provided large areas of thicket stage, new planting and open ground. The bottom half of the wood is gently sloping with numerous streams and a small lochan. The top half is steeper with many rocky outcrops breaking the ground providing natural vantage points for spying. Whether you like to sit and wait or take a more energetic approach this area would be ideal. There will be a standard charge of £60 per outing and depending on what you want to shoot, we can negotiate a fee in advance. For example, a mature Sika stag would be in the region of £300 while a young cull animal would start at £120. Brown trout fishing is available in the innumerable hill lochs in the area - many of which can be reached by foot. Day tickets can be purchased for trout and salmon fishing on the famous River Glass and River Farrar. We can acquire these for you in advance if required

What a wonderful escape!
Fantastic location, very helpful owners and a magnificent sense of peace and quiet in the Scottish Highlands. The lodge is well appointed and spacious, I will miss the log burning stove and the venison steaks provided by the owners. A great welcome. I will be back.
Perfect place for a peaceful getaway
What a fantastic place. The setting is perfect for that peaceful getaway. The children loved to explore and learn about wildlife. My wife enjoyed the tranquility and I enjoyed every aspect of our visit - from the woodland walks with my family to the deer stalking. I look forward to returning in the future.
We will be coming back!
This has been the first holiday that we have had that we knew as soon as we arrived that we wanted to return! Loking forward to spring next year. The location is ideal for sight-seeing around the area, however, there are plenty of beautiful walks and incredible wildlife right on the doorstep. The only thing that has been warmer than the wonderful wood-burner, has been the exceptional friendliness and helpfulness of Laurna, David and Angus.
The lodge, the scenery, the wildlife, the warm reception
The lodge, the scenery, the wildlife, the warm reception....it was everything we expected and more. The Lodge looked great on my computer screen but not half as good as in real life! We saw deer 3 times, the kids & I loved the golf course at Aigas and Glen Affric must have been the most beautiful piece of nature that we have ever seen. Thanks for the hospitality and the delicious roast. We truly hope to come back here some day & I'm pretty sure that the next time we will have to book in advance!
