It is the perfect location to explore the Scottish Highlands. The cottage is surrounded by the most beautiful and spectacular scenery in Scotland. Glencoe, with its facilities for walking, climbing, and skiing is just five miles away, while the town of Fort William, Britain’s highest mountain ‘Ben Nevis’ and the Nevis Ski Centre are just 16 miles to the north. Cuil Bay, a lovely sand and shingle beach (ideal for watersports and swimming) is within walking distance, (less than one mile away) and the seaside town of Oban with all its facilities (including boat trips to the Scottish Islands) is just 20 miles to the south. The area is surrounded by gourmet restaurants including the world renowned 'Airds Hotel' at nearby Port Appin.
Lorien cottage stands on the edge of Duror village which is the birthplace of James of the Glen. Bright, modern and spacious, It features three bedrooms (2 x twin and 1 x double). There is a large living room with French windows leading to the garden, a reception area, a spacious kitchen, upstairs bathroom and downstairs shower room and attractive modern wooden flooring throughout. The house has full electric central heating and is double glazed. There is also a log fire. There is a beautiful, large, leafy, enclosed garden, which is especially useful if you have pets and there is on site parking for up to four cars.
The village of Duror has a shop/post office and hotel restaurant/bar within walking distance. In addition there is a seafood restaurant overlooking the Loch, less than two miles away.
Facilities include: Satellite TV with over 200 channels, DVD and CD player, Electric Cooker, Fridge, Freezer, Microwave, Washer/Drier, Ironing Facilities, Telephone (incoming calls). Electricity and heating and linen included in cost. Pets are very welcome by arrangement.
Skiing: The area has excellent skiing in winter. The Glencoe Ski Centre is just seven miles away, while the town of Fort William, Britain’s highest mountain ‘Ben Nevis’ and the Nevis Ski Centre (dry slope in summer) are just 16 miles to the north. Ski and Snowboard equipment is available to hire at both of these centres. Lessons are also available for beginners.
Golf: The area has some beautiful golf courses. There is a spectacular 9 Hole golf course, with views right across the Lochs less than 5 miles away at Ballachulish. There are also 18 hold golf courses at Fort William and Oban.
Other Activities: rock and ice climbing centre, seal and sea life centre, canoeing, white water rafting.
