From the market place in Selkirk, take the road that is signposted to Peebles (A72) and Moffat (A708). This is the A707, but it is seldom signposted with this number.
Follow the A707 down the hill for about a third of a mile. The road turns to the right and there is a red telephone box on the right hand side. After this the road turns to the left. On this bend, turn left onto the B7009.
This road has several signposts:
* Ettrick Valley Hotels B & B
* B7009 Ettrick Bridge 7, Langholm 48
* Aikwood Tower 4
* Honeypot Cottage
It is quite a sharp turn onto the B7009, which is called Ettrick Road at this point on the way out of Selkirk.
Stay on the B7009 until you reach the village of Ettrickbridge.
As you come into the village, you cross the Ettrick Water. Woodend Road is almost immediately on your right, but do not turn into Woodend Road (unless you are parking).
Brigend Cottage is on the main street and is the first cottage on your right after the turning to Woodend Road. There is a small wooden sign at the left hand side of the front door saying Brigend Cottage.
If you are using a SAT-NAV, the postcode is TD7 5JJ.
Scotland's best kept secret
We spent a relaxing week here in April 2011. Great welcome from the owner Barbara, with the easter eggs for my two young sons, a nice touch. Good walks and attractions locally and some idyllic fishing spots on Ettrick Water that runs through the village. The villagers were all very friendly too, and the pub back room is ideal for young energetic children. Peebles, Melrose, Bowhill Estate all nearby and well worth a visit. We would recommend it for a relaxing break away from it all.
A Holiday To Remember
We stayed at the cottage for five days in April 2011. The holiday home was a real treat ,clean comfortable and had everything in it for a perfect break.
The local people were welcoming and we had some nice chats with them. The Scottish Boarders must be one of the most picturesque places in Britain.
Look no further for the PERFECT Cottage
We have just returned from spending New Year at this beautiful property, the photographs really do not do it justice! The cottage is furnished, equipped and maintained to a very high standard and the owners have gone out of their way to ensure that everything you could possibly need is available from toiletries to fire lighters and even a small torch for walking back from the local pub! The pub (2mins walk away) serves large well cooked meals and we got a friendly welcome from the locals.
Communication with the owner, Barbara, was good, and any questions were answered quickly and efficiently.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this property and am looking forward to my next visit!
