From the edge of the pond you can see the Mediterranean shining on the horizon; in clear weather even the peaks of the Pyrenees. The valley, which ends with a dramatic 200 m high rock face behind the house is heavily wooded with Holm oaks and other conifers. Occasionally, one can hear the cries of the raptors, which nest in the rocks above the house. Otherwise, one can enjoy the greatest attraction here: silence. This peace and quiet is a rarity in our modern, hectic world. Les Crozes is a special place; one can enjoy nature in peace, without noise, traffic, neighbours or other tourists.
What to do: This is a true paradise for excursions to countless towns and villages, each beautiful and charming, with inviting terraces, ancient buildings, unique museums, and idyllic nooks and corners. There are many historic sites, some from the ancient Greek and Roman periods, other from the time of the Templars, and, toward the Pyrenees, from the Cathars. One of the most beautiful is the town of Saint Guilhem-le-Désert, with its great stone Devil’s Bridge over the Hérault, on the pilgrim’s route to Santiago de Compostella. And one cannot forget cities like Montpellier, Nîmes, Béziers, Pézenas, Narbonne and Toulouse, each with its own distinctive historical and cultural character. In summer, there is a wide selection of concerts, plays and festivals. Another attraction are the quaint, weekly open-air markets, on a different day in every village; the spas with their health springs; the monasteries, golf courses and theme parks. And of course the many cafés and restaurants.
Surrounding: Languedoc is a beautiful part of the world and has much to offer. Along the Mediterranean coast there are beautiful beaches and harbours, like Sète and Agde. Lakes like the Lac du Salagou (12 km), with its characteristic red beaches, offer surfing, swimming, sailing and fishing. And if the catch is less than hoped, it is still a wonderful surprise to see the silvery fish leaping out of the water. And then there are the rivers, such as the Hérault, the Heric, or the Tarn, with imposing cliffs rising above them, where you can take canoe trips, have a picnic or just relax on small, secluded beaches. The area is ideal for horseback riding or long hikes. One of the long, French trekking routes, the Grand Randonnée 74, passes within a kilometre of the house. You’ll find gentle hills here and also rugged mountains and wild rock formations scattered about as if by the hand of a giant. In addition there are caves, each one unique.
Children, pets and garden: Children are, of course, very welcome at Les Crozes and are catered for in the house with a highchair and crib. You should indicate when registering whether you will need them. In the yard, you’ll find a swing, sandbox and wading pool. And we have no objection to play tents and the like. Pets are allowed, under supervision. We ask, if possible, that smoking be done outside, for the benefit of the next, non-smoking, residents. Garden furniture and a barbecue are also available, as well as two lounge chairs. The remoteness of Les Crozes will guarantee that these can be used with complete privacy. You are of course also free to use the swimming pool and there is ample room for other outdoor activities, such as boules (petanque). The atmosphere at Les Crozes is warm and congenial. We will do our best to make you feel welcome. Attractions are numerous, obligations are none.

Les Crozes is located in the Hérault district in southern France, at the edge of the Mediterranean climatic zone. It is a wonderful spot in the sun-drenched landscape of Languedoc-Rousillon with its extensive forests, rolling hills and imposing rock formations. It is a quiet region, partly wild, partly cultivated, in the foothills where the river Hérault descends from the Larzac plateau and, further to the north, in the mountainous region of Cevennes.
