You have got to go...
What a find..... the most enjoyable and relaxing holiday so far. The Cullimore family are the most inviting hosts you will ever meet. Nothing was a too much . It was difficult to leave the pool and the amazing view. But when we eventually did we discovered the beautiful beach at Nerja , it was so refreshing to jump in the sea, our six year old enjoyed snorkling and saw some beautiful fish. Our children (aged 6 and 5) were made very welcome they had enough entertainment to last several months, not the mention the dogs (Charlie, Bruno and Woody) and guinea pigs. The Cullimore girls looked after them so well and we really appreciated the babysitting facility which gave Steve and I an opportunity to hike up the mountain to Comares, there are few words to describe this 20 minute walk, apart from breathtaking. We will be back this time armed with our hiking boots. Lastly thanks to Jacqui for the best door to door driving directions ever. Its difficult to discrible this holiday to our friends, we just want them to see for themselves. Thanks Jacqui, David and Girls. See you again soon
Lovely hosts, world class setting
I stayed here only a few days ago and within a day of coming back we were emailing David trying to arrange another booking!! The setting could not be better, the studio was lovely, had amazing kitchen facilities and also had a bbq outside. David and Co could not be more helpful with general info about the area and about the studios - also provided us with some basics when we arrived (eggs, beer, milk, wine etc) - It might sound cliche but you have to see the location to believe it - photos just don't do the job!!
It wer reight good
Stayed here for 10 days at the end of September. Where to start ..... the fantastic views, the sun coming up over the mountains every morning and the light pouring through the French windows, what a way to wake up, the accommodation, the pool, the friendly (chatty but not obtrusive) owners, Comares sitting perched on top of a mountain, sparkling in the sun, the walk up to Comares, sitting outside with a glass of wine looking up at the stars and the twinkling lights of the villages in the distance, the walks, Malaga with its tapas bars just 45 mins away, went to Granada and Ronda, easy day trips from Vine Ridge, did I mention the views. Best thing to do is go and find out for yourselves .......... we did and loved it.
"Wonderful Studios with the most stunning views"
As a previous reviewer noted the photos are a pale imitation of the actual view as you look out from Vine Ridge across the valleys and mountains of Andalusia. It is a jaw dropping experience.. Only a short drive from Malaga and yet out the wilds, Vine Ridge is still a short drive/walk from the while village( pueblos blanco) of Comares. The pool is amazing although be careful as the view is so distracting. The closeness to the airport means that a weekend break is easily possible to soak up some of those rays sadly missing from the British climate. A taxi service is available from the owner so you don't even need to hire a car! Check out the cheap flights possible and get yourself over here for a well earned weekend break. We shalll be returning that's for sure.
A real break in real Spain.
After a hectic year our time at Vine Ridge was well needed! We had a fabulous break. The views are amazing, Comares is beautiful. We visited Granada, Nerja, Torre Del Mar. The kids loved cooling off in the pool. We enjoyed being able to cook for ourselves but also had some wonderful meals out. The fish restaurants in Torre and Caletta are wonderful value. David and Jacqui were helpful yet discreet. We made good use of their fridge bar! They pointed us in the direction of the many local feria. We would love to see this area in spring or autumn too. We would recommend the apartment to anyone looking for a chance to wind down completelyand explore inland Andalucia but who still want to be close enough to the coast for beach and good food.
Heart of Andalucia
We drove down from the north over a couple of days and when we arrived we found Vine Ridge to be the destination we had hoped for. The location is breathtaking and photographs don't do it justice. Relaxing by the pool during the heat of the day, enjoying a glass of wine in the warm breeze as the moon rises over the distant sea, the valley below filled with the sound of crickets; just superb.
The apartment was very comfortable with everything we needed. We could eat breakfast looking out at the mountains miles across the valley.
After a day or two's rest we were then easily able to drive out to Malaga to catch some flamenco, get down to the coast, visit the Alhambra in Granada, or just make our way up to pretty Comares for tapas.
David and Jaqui are welcoming and friendly and they helped make Vine Ridge a great place to experience what Andalucia has to offer, whether relaxing and taking in the sun and the views, or visiting some of the many attractions of the area. Thanks to you both.
Spectacular views and friendly hosts
I have recently returned home after a 2 week stay in the Vine Ridge Apartment with a friend. I went for the second half of May which is a perfect time for anyone who likes it warm/hot but not baking hot.
The drive from the airport was a little sketchy at times but well worth it for the stunning views and peace and quiet.
During our stay we went hiking, visited the beautiful Lake Vinuela, hit the bars in Comares, went to the waterpark in Torremolinos and regularly drove down to the beaches and towns on the Costa del sol. In between all that we chilled out by the pool and gazed at the views.
Dave and Jacqui were ideal hosts, they provided us with clean sheets and towels when needed and even bits of food when we didn't have enough in. They are very friendly and kept giving us suggestions on things to do to get the most out of our holiday - a bit like the local tourist information centre.
I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to be in the quiet country side but doesn't want to be too far away from towns and beaches. Hire a car if you're going to be there for more than a few days and bring some sturdy footwear.
WOW, What a Place! - Internet Marketers Dream...
Wow, what a place! I loved every second of the 31 days I spent at Vine Ridge.
I booked the holiday to work on my business from an peaceful apartment with good views.
I was not disappointed. The views were Breathtaking and my inspiration and creativity shot up and I got some really good work done.
I would highly recommend you come to vine ridge if you work online, as a internet marketer, wed designer or freelancer.
The owners are amazing people and made me feel very welcome at all times.
I loved Vine Ridge so much, I was only back in the UK for 2 days and jumped back on a flight.
Great Getaway
We had been wanting to visit the more real, rural Spain, after a couple of trips to the bright lights of the Costa Del Sol. Luckily found Vine Ridge and booked immediately on seeing the views and the fact that there was a village within walking distance. David's communications throughout made the whole process easy. Directions were good - even though we arrived in the dark.. it made awakening and seeing the view for the first time even more amazing ! Although we hired a car we found the location had all we wanted for a relaxed week, you get used to the walk up the hill to Comares and it makes that first beer or glass of wine taste that little sweeter! The locals at Comares are all very friendly especially the couple at El Molino, and the bar next door. A couple of trips out to the local villages and beach were plenty as the scenery doesn't get much better than that out of the apartment! Well stocked apartment was comfortable and fitted our needs, whilst the hosts kept us well informed. Will no doubt be back for another chill out at some stage, most likely with another couple or two after hearing us rave about how great it was....
Perfect in every way
I stayed at Vine Ridge with my daughters and grand-daughters so we covered quite an age range - and we all loved it. David and Jacqui were attentive and considerate hosts, there was plenty to keep the little ones busy (what an amazing selection of games, toys and dressing up gear!), and the location is magnificent - the panoramas and the peace were heavenly. It is not easy to satisfy such a disparate group as ours but we all left Vine Ridge certain that we would like to re-visit.
On a more practical note, the apartments were well equipped and clean, there was free wifi (important for me) and plenty of useful information for walking and sightseeing. The children enjoyed the pool despite the weather being decidedly chilly. I could imagine it being a real boon on a sizzling hot day.
We hired a car which was useful for exploring a wider area. I suspect that if I had been travelling alone I would have been happy to spend a large part of my time simply relaxing at Vine Ridge and walking the local area. The nearest town, Comares, is a pleasant uphill walk. It is a pretty hilltop town and provides the basic requirements of shop, post, pharmacy and some small bars and restaurants - all of which were friendly and welcoming, even of our rabble of children.
The drive up to Vine Ridge is challenging so do accept Davids help and advice on your first ascent. His expert knowledge of the track makes it so much easier and it is well worth the climb.
The information provided in the listing is accurate and pertinent. It is clear from David's and Jacqui's attitudes to their guests that they really want to provide a good and happy experience. I get the feeling that they would be genuinely saddened if anyone left Vine Ridge dissatisfied or disappointed with their stay.
Idyllic Spanish Retreat
We visited Vine Ridge for 4 nights during March 2011 & were pleasantly surprised by both the beauty of its location & the welcome we received from its owners. Only an hour's drive from Malaga airport, it's hard to believe that this little bit of paradise exists so close to the brashness of the Cost Del Sol.
The drive up the dirt track to the apartment was exciting to say the least, and not for the faint-hearted, but the view that awaited at the top of the hill was nothing short of awesome; rolling hills & a breathtaking glimpse of the real Spain.
The apartment itself was clean, cosy & perfect for our short break; tastefully decorated and kindly stocked with essentials (tea, coffee, milk & a welcome bottle of wine). Dave & Jacqui were ideal hosts; unobtrusive, yet always around to answer queries about the area, apartment & almost anything else.
Comares itself is a stunning little Spanish village & we were both taken aback by its beauty. We will certainly be returning, next time with sun lotion!!
Ideal base for a walking holiday
We left Vine Ridge today, after a week which gave us exactly what we hoped for - a comfortable base in a beautiful area, where, as keen walkers, we were able to enjoy good walks, without the mud of a UK January. You may think the photos and descriptions are too good to be true; they're not! What you see is what you get, some of the most FANTASTIC and panoramic views in Spain, well planned, comfortable, accommodation, and friendly helpful hosts (and family) who will make you feel welcome. (And the most gorgeous pool, but only for the brave in January!).
The area offers wonderful walking opportunities, with no crowds; as well as exploring the local walks which start at the door, we bought a book: 'Walk! The Axarquia', (by Charles Davis), and accompanying map, which proved ideal for exploring a variety of landscapes within a drive of under an hour.
We agree with all the positive comments in previous reviews; David and Jacqui have succeeded in providing everything you could want, at an amazingly reasonable price. Highly recommended.
Wonderful break in beautiful surroundings
We took a last minute holiday and found Vine Ridge to be just what we were looking for, away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. We had fantastic weather, the 1 bedroom apartment was fabulous with everything that one needs for a self catering holiday.
Thanks to David & Jacqui for their accurate directions to Vine Ridge, particularly as it was dark when we landed at Malaga and for the welcome upon our arrival along with the welcome pack - omelettes and lager when down a treat.
David & Jacqui are wonderful hosts and made us feel at home. We did plenty of walking and sightseeing around the area and even had two days just chilling by the pool, along with Woody, Bruno and Charlie!
It's a lovely walk up to Comares which is a quiet, quaint white village and we ate twice at the Hotel Molino which is definitely to be recommended.
Most relaxing holiday ever
We stayed at the studio for two weeks in September. It was clean and very well equipped with the most amazing views out over the mountains. The pool area was ideal for making the most of the views too. We walked along a few of the trails and visited Granada, Torre Del Mar and Nerja. The studio makes a good base for exploring. David and Jacqui were very helpful in offering advice on travelling and helping to organise the car hire.
I would definitely recommend the property to others, confident that they wouldn't be disappointed.
It can be even better second time around....
We picked this holiday from a website in 2009 - our first experience of doing so. David and Jacqui gave us information, reassurance and made the process of booking a breeze. We were picked up at the bottom of the track when our (economy) car found the going too tough with luggage, air conditioning (remember to turn it off!) and 4 people. The David made sure we had food and drink available when we got back very late after a car breakdown and generally made sure we were well cared for. The pictures only tell part of the story of what a remarkable location this is. It has to be experienced to be fully appreciated.
So we booked again. Without hesitation. For two weeks instead of one. The studio is a testament to planning and design. For the few hours a day we actually spent in it, there is everything you need. An easy to keep clean kitchen area, lovely shower, squishy sofa, lots of drawer space, games and books, TV/DVD player and internet connection. With pre-teen girls this is crucual.
There is a lovely beach area, off the tourist beaten track, used mostly by Spanish families, easily found by driving down the mountain back in the direction of the sea. We would go early evening to swim, relax and watch the world go by Then build up to leisurely stroll along the prom to chose the beach bar for an evening paella or BBQ fish fresh caught that day. When even that was too demanding, we could go to the local bar in Comares to get fish and chips like you could never find in the UK. Delicious in either case.
It is easy to create a holiday to suit all members of the family - mixing culture, history, walking, sailing, reading by the pool, horse riding, rally driving (well, some of the terrain is quite challenging), bird watching and be as involved as you choose with the wonderful hosts.
Yes - we will go again. Soon. And invite friends.
Wonderful find for a tranquil holiday.
What a smashing find. Am a bit reluctant to give it all the accolades it deserves as it will be full the next time we want to book! Peaceful setting, with lovely views and very comfortable accomodation. A perfect place to unwind, and everything you need for couple or family holiday, with pool, mountain vistas, beaches half hour away, dogs to pet, and good company if you so desire.
Bliss......
A Simply Magical Place in southern Spain
I stayed at Vine Ridge for a month this summer. I don't know what I would have done without the Cullimore family! I wanted an out of the way, authentic experience where I could meet people and have adventures. I got both and so much more! As a Spanish teacher who has travelled to Spain many time, this trip was extraordinary for me. I was able to relax, trek up to Comares (which is "other-worldly"), and simply enjoy the phenomenal views. I made some great friends over the month and am in still in contact with them. My sister came over for 12 days and we took in the fabulous city of Ronda, as well as Marbella and Nerja. One does stay in shape by climbing up to the village of Comares, but the amazing panoramas make each climb worth it. David and Jaqui as well as their beautiful daughters and sweetheart dogs couldn't be better hosts. I loved the accommodations and since it was a World Cup year, we had so much fun discussing the games!
Comares is a place that you really don't want anyone else to know about, so it will retain its Moorish character and sheltered lifestyle.
If you are planning on driving, keep in mind the mountainous area, and be ready to take that on. This is an adventure of a lifetime and I definitely will return! I would like to encourage more Americans to experience this breathtaking place in Spain. Don't miss Ivan and the restaurant El Molino de Los Abuelos. The food and sangria are out of this world. I have all of my friends interested in Comares now. I know I would not have had as fabulous a time without staying at Vine Ridge with such warm and cheerful owners. ¡Viva España! and Hasta Pronto

Paul and Sarah's stay at the studio July 2010
Vine Ridge is a beautiful spot in the mountains near Comares. A rather vertiginous track to get there, but it's so worth it. We arrived very late at night following flight delays, but David and Jacqui were fantastic and came to meet us at the bottom of the track and we were guided up to their lovely home. In the morning I heard my partner open the shutters and simply say 'Wow'. The view is amazing and the area stunning! We spent most of time relaxing by the great pool, with those views. We ventured out a couple of times to the sea and into beautiful Comares. A week is not enough to discover this area and we will certainly hope to come back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to friends and family. Lovely family, thanks to David,Jacqui, the girls and the boys (Woody,Charlie&Bruno) for a lovely retreat from an exhausting work schedule.
It is hard to describe the magic of the place....
We stayed at Vine Ridge for 10 days in April and had a wonderful time.
I was a bit worried about the track at first...although my husband wasn't fazed by it at all and I did get used to it after a couple of day!
It was well worth it for the most amazing views from the terrace...down to the valley and riverbed below, across to the mountains and a far away glimpse of the sea...magic!
We spent lots of time just looking (with the aid of David's binoculars) at the stunning scenery, watching locals working in the orchards and olive groves, goats meandering the hillsides and magnificent eagles soaring above. The countryside was full of wild flowers and we loved driving across the ford and through the lemon groves with their intoxicating smell. The apartment was lovely, spotlessly clean and very well equiped. David, Jackie and the girls are a lovely family, they were the perfect hosts really welcoming, friendly and helpful but not intrusive.
We loved the area and Comares ...but most of all we loved Vine Ridge. It is hard to describe the magic of the place......people will have to see it for themselves! It is a place we definitely will return to.
