Southsea is the hidden gem on the South Coast. The facilities here are excellent and it is not as crowded as other better known seaside towns. It has everything you would expect from a seaside, good beach, pier, lots for children and adults, huge common right next to the seafront, loads of history and places to visit. The New Forest is a short drive away as are several other interesting sights along the South Coast.
Amongst many local activities there are the Sea Life Centre, boating lake, Butterfly Museum, several crazy golf courses, pitch and putt and the wonderful tenth hole cafe (an absolute must, even if you don't play golf), tennis courts, bowling greens, cricket, beach volleyball courts, plus amusement arcades and the rides at Clarence Pier.

OLYMPICS - for anyone with tickets for the games, we are 2 hours away from the Olympic village in London and 90 minutes from the yachting in Weymouth. This would be the perfect place to combine this with a beach holiday.

For the lovers of history and culture there is Old Portsmouth with it's quaint old houses, city ramparts, cobbled streets, great pubs/restaurants and galleries all close to Nelson's flagship, the Victory, the Mary Rose display and museum and the Warrior, a 19th century naval ship. At Gunwharf there is shopping, eating, drinking and the famous Spinnaker Tower from where you can see for 23 miles all the way round!
