Port Grimaud has a justified reputation as one of the prettiest towns in the Cote d’Azur. The ‘Venice’ of France, Port Grimaud was created by the architect Francois Spoerry to provide luxury homes, each with a mooring, for lovers of the sea and the sun. Situated at the head of the Golfe de St Tropez, midway between St Maxime and St Tropez, it is ideally located to visit the ancient mountain top villages of Gassin and Grimaud. There are also vineyards to explore as well as the beautiful Porquerrole Island and any trip to Port Grimaud demands a trip to the town of St Tropez, made world-famous by a host of movie stars including Brigitte Bardot.
In Port Grimaud village there are numerous restaurants, including many offering fine-dining and specialising in seafood, a bank, a post office and a variety of shops. Market days are Sunday and Thursday, when local wines, cheeses, meat and vegetables are sold, as well as clothing, jewellery and crafts from the surrounding area.
There is a supermarket opposite the nearby church, or for a major food shop, a large hypermarket, the ‘Geant Casino’ at La Foux roundabout on the way to St Tropez.
The main beach is about 5 minutes' walk from the house and offers safe swimming for the family in lovely crystal-clear water.
Across the bay, St Tropez can be reached by ferry from the market square in Port Grimaud, or by road in about 15 mins depending on traffic. Market days here are Saturday and Tuesday and should not be missed. The quayside outside the Café de Paris is very special, where you can mingle with the rich and famous. St Tropez is renowned for its golden sand beaches and people flock to the private beach clubs dotted along the Bay of Pampelonne. The most famous is Club 55 where film stars love to lunch.
Away from the glitz, the town has retained its sense of tradition with small winding streets and old buildings that lead to the fort above.
The mountains are a complete contrast and the villages are historical delights. Within short driving distance, there are the romantic medieval hill-top towns of Gassin, Grimaud and Ramattuelle.
For those interested in walking there are the Maures Massive range of Hills and a coastal path that runs for many kilometres around the beaches and headlands.
There are so many activities nearby so if you want to enjoy an action-packed family break you can choose from cycling, diving, fishing, golf, mini golf, horse riding, mountain biking, sailing, swimming, tennis, boating, snorkelling, canoeing, karting, water parks, fun fair, bowling, casinos, galleries and of course, wine-tasting. Or you could just relax on the beach...
