Whitewalls Cottage stands at the end of a row of three and is situated in the very heart of the picturesque conservation village of Mithian. Reputedly one of the oldest villages in Cornwall, it has a cluster of thatched cottages together with a 16th-century inn with Elizabethan courtyard in a peaceful valley setting. This idyllic village is just 5 minutes from the A30 and 2 miles from the historic coastal village of St Agnes. The cob and thatch cottage is Grade II listed as being of historic interest, built in about 1750. It has a private courtyard at the rear with plants and outside seating. The accommodation is on two floors, the bedroom being upstairs and living room, kitchen and shower room downstairs.
Whitewalls is a delightful cottage for 2 people, comfortably furnished in modern style with a blue and white theme in the sitting room and bedroom. Entry to the cottage is through a side gate into a small private courtyard with colourful pots of plants and a bench for 2. A stable door leads into the galley kitchen with hob, oven, microwave, washing machine, fridge, toaster, kettle, sufficient crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils for two people. A small trolley provides surface and storage. The sitting room with its exposed beams and a slate and stone hearth for an open fire has comfortable seating, TV /DVD with Freeview digital TV and radio channels and CD player /radio. There are additional storage drawers and a cupboard in the sitting room. There are reading books, local information and maps. Parking is on the road outside the cottage. Heating is by storage heaters. Initial coal and kindling for the open fire is supplied.
Steep stairs (not suitable for children, elderly or infirm people) go up to the bedroom which is light and bright with windows to the front and side. It has a double bed (bed linen is provided), wardrobe, set of drawers and chair. A radio alarm clock and hairdryer are provided.
Electricity usage is included in the rental price. The property is strictly non-smoking and we do not accept pets
The cottage is surrounded by delightful countryside with numerous lovely walks. The nearest cove is easily accessible by car or by a 35 minute walk through charming Jericho Valley. The many and varied stretches of the spectacular coastal path are accessible; from the high cliffs of the North Coast to Lands End and the Lizard, the gentle Roseland Peninsula, and the sailing creeks of Carrick Roads and the Helford Passage. Nearby St Agnes offers the renowned surfing beaches of Trevaunance Cove and Chapel Porth. There are riding stables in the vicinity and a golf driving range. The golf course on the cliffs at Perranporth is only 5 miles distant. Truro is just 7 miles with its many shops, restaurants and theatre. The towns and art galleries of St Ives and Penzance are a short drive away as are Falmouth's Maritime Museum and the Eden Project. Many historic houses and gardens are easily accessible.
For visitors unfamiliar with Cornwall these are some of our favourite activities and locations within about 45 mins drive of the cottage:

Directions to the property (postcode TR5 0QF) are as follows:
Proceed through Cornwall westwards on the A30. At the roundabout with the A39 to Truro stay on the A30. Continue on the single carriageway road for a few miles past Zelah. At the road junction called CHYBUCCA turn right on the B3284 towards Perranporth. After a short distance go straight across the A3075 Newquay road. On a bend you will see a lane signed Mithian to the left. You can either take this lane (with a long steep narrow section) or continue on the B3284 for another half mile to a crossroads where Mithian is again signed to the left (with a shorter steep narrow section!). Both bring you to the Rose-in-Vale Hotel . Turn across the small bridge (left if you came down the first lane, right from the second) to the junction by the Miners Arms. Turn right. You will see a row of thatched cottages on the left. “Whitewalls” is at the far end with the black side gate.

I just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful stay in Cornwall. We loved the cottage and it was perfect for our needs. A brilliant location and maintained to a really high standard.
August 2010
We stayed at whitewalls last week and it was exactly as advertised. It was very central for travelling and the village and local pub were very friendly. Very comfortable accomodation and great value for money. We were very sorry to leave this idyllic village and would throughly recommend the cottage and location.

I just wanted to say how wonderful it was to stay in your delightful cottage. Both C and I had a wonderful week in Mithian and visiting other parts of Cornwall.
A glorious place- like visiting the past
I stayed here for 5 nights with my boyfriend in May 2010 and we felt the cottage had been slightly undersold on the pictures- it was more spacious than we were expecting and nice and cool during the hot days. It's very unusual to stay in a cottage of this age and the cottage includes many books on the village which were really appreciated. The cottage also had a lot of leaflets about local attractions in it- so we went straight to the pub with them on arrival for 'planning'! The only thing we didn't like so much was parking where we could find a spot on the road, but it wasn't a big deal.
The pub (100metres away) is very friendly and we ate at the Rose & Vale Country house (walking distance, 5-10mins from the cottage) one night which was very memorable.
The organising and admin of the stay was dealt with very efficiently and it felt more homely than a lot of rental places. This place is highly recommended, it really feels like you are in the wilds of nature.
