In addition to the indoor dining area on the lower level of the house there is a dining facility for four people on the lower terrace below a covered area to protect guests from the mid-day sun. La Fuma sunbeds and deck chairs are provided for the comfort of guests. The top terrace, with spectacular views across the historical city "rooftops, is a wonderful place to sit on warm barmy evenings. with a cold glass of prosecco. The outdoor shower, located on the lower terrace, offers a refreshing relief from the mid day heat in the summer months. Although the terraces are surrounded by railings the terrace height from ground floor level makes the property unsuitable for young children. Balcony, Terrace, Outdoor furniture |

Ostuni in October
Our stay in Casa Solarolo was fabulous. The house is amazing. The house is wonderfully decorated and furnished. It was beautifully presented and clean and tidy when we arrived .The vaulted stone ceilings are lovely. The house was equipped with everything you could need including all the little things that are often not provided, meaning you have to buy excessive quantities and not use them. Things like washing up liquid, soap, dishwasher tablets. The fact that everything was included and available is a big plus for us and means you can enjoy the holiday without thinking about mundane things.
We were there at the end of October but the weather, though changeable, was still warm enough, even hot (26 degrees and sunny) enough to sit and enjoy breakfast and drinks on the roof overlooking the city.
Ostuni is a fascinating city and the house and its location up the steps of a steep lane surrounded by everyday Italian homes gives you a real feel of belonging to the city. The windows have mosquito netting fitted which is a great idea.
We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend Casa Solarolo as a great holiday house.
An amazing house in the centre of a beautiful town
We stayed at Casa Solarolo for a long weekend and would thoroughly recommend it. The house has recently been completely refurbished and everything is brand new. My two favourite aspects were the roof terrace and the location. The private roof terrace, complete with sun loungers and an open air shower, gets the sun for most of the day and is a beautiful, relaxing and quiet place to spend the day - as we did for one of our days. The situation of the house is perfect. Just 50m from the front door is the small road that leads in to the town centre. Within a few minutes walk we could get to most of the beautiful restaurants and bars that Ostuni has to offer, as well as the shops and a luxury health spa. We will be going back again in 2011 and I would absolutely recommend Casa Solarolo, it is like a personal boutique hotel with the option of relaxing in peace or heading out to the liveliness of a bustling Southern Italian town.
The real Italian experience
This is a beautiful house tucked away in an ideal central location. The interier is stylish, cosy and has a typically Italian feel about it. We spent two fantastic days experiencing the delights of Ostuni, which can all be found just a couple of minutes stroll from the house. We took advantage of the roof top terrace to take an aperatif and to soak up the sun. It's a perfect set up for a couple wanting a romantic break or as in our case, for friends to catch up in a great setting. We will definately be going back next year.
Try something different, visit Ostuni
Two couples travelled together. We had been to Puglia before and stayed in a Trullo in the countryside so were keen to experience the town and night life without worrying about who was driving. We were not disappointed.
The house was beautiful and quite spacious for four of us. It had been tastefully restored with all mod cons. Air con had been installed in the lounge and one of the bedrooms which was great on the hotter days. The house is in a quiet spot but within a few minutes walk to the main square.
We arrived late Saturday and were able to order extra items for the welcome pack as the shops were not open on Sunday. This was a great service because they bought everything we asked for and meant the wine kept flowing..
We hired a car for the week so were able to go to the beach and visit other towns. We liked Torre Guaceto which was a long beach with loungers and facilities at one end and almost no one at the other end. Torre Pozzella was another favourite, ,just a small sandy cove with several rocky coves further on. There was a a beach bar close by. We recommend Lasagna for 3 Euros as it was fab.
We went to Martina Franco on a Wednesday and there was a huge market on. We also visited Cisternino which is like a smaller version of Ostuni.
Driving in town was a bit hectic but once familiar with the main routes we found parking easy and it was great having the freedom to go out everyday. The roads to the beaches are quiet and easy to navigate.
It was nice to get dressed up in an evening and go out to eat and drink. We found Ostuni expensive but the food was amazing and the anti pasta dishes could be a meal in themselves. In fact we took food home one night. You could eat more cheaply, particularly if you like pizza and do not mind house wine, which we found to be fine and good value. Eating in was also fine because the kitchen was well equipped and the roof top terrace comfortable once the sun had gone down.
We had a great time but suggest travelling on a day other than Saturday as town was heaving when we arrived and roads blocked off so finding the accommodation was difficult.
Location, accommodation and weather, perfect!
What a fantastic find! As a group of three friends, we had a wonderful week staying at the Casa Solarolo in May 2009. Location, accommodation and weather were all perfect.
This beautifully renovated house lies within the city walls of Ostuni, and is only a few minutes walk of the Square, Cathedral, bars, shops and restaurants. The décor is stylish and the standard of cleanliness impeccable. The furnishings were all new and therefore very well maintained. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you need including a dishwasher. There were lots of special touches like the quality of the bedding and towels – certainly not your usual grey, well worn variety!
The welcome pack was extremely thoughtful as our flight time was late evening and the shops were closed when we arrived – basic food and a bottle of wine was very much appreciated. The information pack and maps of the town were particularly useful and gave various suggestions on where to eat as well as providing information about places of interest etc.
Ostuni was in the middle of a heat wave during our visit – unfortunately air conditioning was not installed in the house at the time, however I understand this has now been addressed. The only down side is that due to the amount of stairs in the property it would not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
The owners have obviously put a lot of thought into making their guests stay a wonderful experience. We would confidently recommend this holiday destination and beautiful accommodation to others.
Contemporary heaven in a traditional house
My husband and I stayed in Casa Solarolo for 1 week in October 2008. The house is an exquisite, fully restored property on 3 levels which sleeps 4 people. It has been thoughtfully designed and the vaulted ceilings and exposed brickwork retain the traditional style against a very contemporary interior with all mod-cons and a fantastically equipped kitchen with dishwasher - very welcome!. We often shopped for fresh fish (3 euros for sea bass!), fresh fruit and veg and cooked ourselves. The house has a fantastic roof terrace overlooking all the whitewashed buildings and it was a pleasure to prepare food and eat up there with a glass of wine. The house is in a perfect location and only a few minutes walk from the main square so no need for taxi's anywhere.
The weather was around 22 - 24 degrees during the day. Ostuni is a very old city in Southern Italy , it's small enough to discover on foot with more than enough restaurants, bars and cafes to satisfy. The main thing we noticed about Ostuni was how stylish places seemed to be, for example the bars in the old Cathedral area are very modern built into caves with beanbags and candles everywhere - just beautiful (try Riccardo cafe and Gipas). We found the standard of restaurants to be very high and not so expensive. You can eat out in a special place for around 70 euros for 3 courses, wine and water for 2 people. The standard of food is extremely high and the Southern Italians pride themselves on this.
It was so lovely to stay in accommodation where everything was good quality and new. The beds and bedding were fantastic!!
The surrounding area is full of interesting places to visit and the sandy beaches are only a few kilometers away. The region is where olive oil is produced and it's the best you will ever taste. There is also Lecce - an hour away which is a stunning and historical place to visit for the day. There is plenty of useful information at the house about where to eat, drink and visit.
We had the most wonderful week at Casa Solarolo. It is a very romantic house and City and we will definitely be returning next year.
