The Post House has been refurbished to offer spacious, comfortable accommodation in the heart of Noss Mayo, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Breathtaking views of the estuary can be had from the large open plan living/dining room or with a glass of wine on the terrace. Wander below to Popes Quay to watch with a beer from the nearby Swan Inn the many river activities including the Regatta and fireworks in July/August. Walk to the Ship Inn for fine food or at low tide cross the causeway, and get diverted by a spot of crabbing on the way, to the pretty village of Newton Ferrers, the Dolphin Inn and the shops. At high tide, hire a boat and row across!
The coastal path is nearby and can be walked with suitable pushchairs offering stunning scenery all year round. Some lovely beaches offering rock pooling to surfing are from fifteen to forty minutes drive whilst Plymouth, the National Marine Aquarium and the historic Barbican are twenty minutes drive. Dartmoor, Dartmouth, The Eden Project and Woodlands Theme Park are all easy day trips.
The Coast path runs almost through Noss Mayo and it is a one mile walk to sea views. Nearby beaches include: Cellar a shingle, sand beach and popular for BBQs; Stoke with coarse sand and lovely location; Mothercombe within five miles sand with rural cafe in car park; Wembury within walking distance or seven miles circuit by car, great rock pooling, cafe, mini Marine Centre; Bigbury fourteen miles away with long sandy beach, Surf School or a walk or sea tractor to Burgh Island and its famous hotel and Pilchard Inn; as well as Bantham fifteen miles away with surfing, rock pools and sand dunes.
There are several local eighteen hole golf courses including Staddon Heights (9 miles) at Plymouth commanding a spectacular view of the Sound, Bigbury (13 miles) and Thurlestone (15 miles) plus the St Mellion Golf and Country Club (20 miles).
Plymouth Dry Ski and Snowboard centre also has a tobbogan run and sno-tubing for the over four year olds!
Newton Ferrers is approximately 11/2 miles by road and just a few minutes walk via the 'voss' at low tide. Plymouth (10 miles) with its many attractions, Modbury with its antique shops (9 miles), Kingsbridge (16 miles), Salcombe (21 miles), Totnes (22 miles), Dartmouth (30 miles), Exeter (40 miles), The Eden Project (45 miles), Looe (30 miles) and Polperro (34 miles).
Local shops in Newton Ferrers include post office stores, small co-op, butchers and pharmacy. There is also a charming tea room at the top of the village. Within 3 miles Riverford Organic Shop offers vegetables, meat, deli, all sorts of groceries and a lovely café. The nearest supermarkets are Morrisons (7miles) and Sainsburys (8 miles).
Amongst Plymouth's many attractions are its historic Barbican, Mayflower Steps and Museum, the spectacular Hoe seafront and lighthouse, the National Marine Aquarium, theatres, cinema complex, Saltram House and many guided water activities including sailing ,kayak, canoeing, windsurfing, diving, fishing trips, leisure boat and power boat trips. There are a couple of lovely trips to do by foot ferries. One takes guests to Mount Edgecombe Park with its Grade 1 gardens, walks with views over the Sound, pub and tea rooms whilst another takes to the picturesque and historic seaside villages of Kingsand and Cawsand (beware of the times of the last boats back!).
Dartmoor is on the doorstep of Ivybridge and within eight miles of the Post House where guests can access the Two Moors Way or if they prefer the Coast to Coast path this can be accessed from nearby Wembury, or South Brent and leads to the beautiful walks around the Avon Dam Resevoir. Widecombe, Haytor Rocks and Becky Falls are further afield.
There are riding stables just outside Newton Ferrers and for some non-road cycling there is a beautiful, mostly wooded and relatively easy cycle track along a disused railway up the Plym Valley from Plympton to Clearbrook where guests will conveniently find the Skylark Inn. Tunnels, viaducts and ancient mine workings add to the intrigue along the way. Totnes has a fabulous amount of independent shops and a classic motte and bailey castle with later stone keep. There is also a beautiful Steam Railway line here running to and from Buckfastleigh and guests can also access Dartmoor Otters and Buckfastleigh Butterflies and the award winning Rarebreeds Farm from the stations doorsteps!
The terrace has table and sun canopy, chairs, barbecue and offers fine views over the estuary. It is accessible from the kitchen allowing drinks and meals to be easily taken onto the terrace to enjoy watching life on the river or the livid sunsets.
There is a parking space for up to two vehicles beside the property while extra parking can be had in the free car park next to the tennis courts.

recommended The property provides easy access to the water and comes provided with a Kayak (although lifejackets and wet suits are advisable but not provided). The stunning Coastal Path provides access to beaches that are a 30 minute walk from the House (10 minutes by car). Pope's Quay directly below the property is a great location for children to go crabbing or for older children to dive from when the tide is in. Nearby tennis courts means that there is something for all the family - those with less mobility can simply sit back and enjoy the ever changing landscape. |
| Local leisure activities |
2 Hard Tennis Courts are available to hire within the village in addition there is a snooker hall. No swimming pool but when the tide is in you can swim off Popes Quay (wet suit advisable!) A Kayak is provided that allows an early morning trip to Newton for breakfast croissants (when the tide is in) or for adventures exploring the creek. Noss Mayo is within an area of outstanding natural beauty and nature puts on a show whatever time of year you visit. We went there in May for the first time in 2011 to be bowled over by the display of spring flowers especially bluebells covering the slopes to the sea adjacent to vibrant Gorse in bloom. WHAT'S ON Regatta weeks in Noss Mayo are great fun where you can join in the rivalry between Noss and Newton villages. Events include crabbing and allcomers rowing competitions in July/August Another unforgettable experience is the annual manufacturers' firework competition staged in Plymouth in mid August. Mountbatten normally provides an excellent vantage point.

Fabulous Place in the Perfect Location
I just wanted to say that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Post house - it is such a fabulous place in the perfect location we had a fantastic time...Once again - thanks and we are looking to come again in the spring so will be in touch again soon! - New Year 2010
What a wonderful time we had
The Swan was about as festive as it is possible for a pub to be (bell ringing, chestnuts roasting, home made gingerbread men, mulled wine, pickled herring to celebrate Malkolms heritage and a Christmas quiz in which we made a very poor showing and came last!). The icy setting sparkled like a Christmas card, the churchbells chimed through the village on Christmas morning and the local community were very welcoming.
The Post House was a marvellous base..beds extremely comfortable..and to have a Christmas tree waiting for us was an extra special touch. We will happily recommend the venue." Kilner family, Christmas 2010
Super House
We have had a lovely (last minute!) break. Super House - loved the views and pubs...very good crab sandwiches at the Dolphin. Highly recommend the walk up to the coastal path - very rewarding...Many thanks. Liddiard Family, Sep 2010
A generally fantastic stay
"Great walks, wonderful views, superb showers & generally fantastic stay - will be recommending to the rest of family and friends" - Byrne & Barnett Family Aug 2010
All we hoped for
We think it says it all that we are back within 7 weeks of our original visit. House is again all we hoped for & we even had decent weather. Loved every second, see you again soon. Horne Family July 2010
We could stay forever
Your house is just wonderful. Great showers, superb views! Breakfast on the terrace after rowing across to the Post Office for freshly baked croissants. We could stay forever!" Clark and Witney families - May 2010
Perfect
We have had a perfect time here! Perfect & lovely house. So warm and welcoming! Perfect location and landscapes. Lovely people and pubs. Enjoyed every single minute of my time here. Many thanks.
Super maison, super ville, super plage, Eu esperant revenir un jour. Merci
We had a wonderful time here enjoying every minute of...everything. Thanks a lot for these great holidays! - March 2011
How lucky were we?
...the house was perfect. We also had the most amazing weather apart from one rainy day. We have stayed in many cottages in the vicinity over the years and this has been the best yet. We bought a lifejacket and some of us had great fun on the kayak - the landlubbers amongst us enjoyed watching from the quay (pint in hand).
We will definitely be back next year. Thank you! - April 2011
An amazing trip
We had an amazing trip, the view was lovely and picturesque, the accommodation and the walks were stunning...We enjoyed every minute of our stay and would recommend it to all of our friends and family. April 2011
We'll be back
Stunning weather, views and pasties. We'll be back. Children had never canoed before and were soon able to paddle like Steve Redgrave. Recommend takeaways from The Swan, pasties from Wembury and Newton Ferrer's butchers and the walk to Wembury taking the ferry (he doesn't charge as much as the sign says!). Record crabbing haul: 6.
Another wonderful stay
Another wonderful stay at The Post House. Swimming(!) at Stoke Beach, Pimms and cider at The Swan, great food at The Ship, a day trip to Padstow and another to Woodlands where we all got drenched by the waterslides. Fabulous!!! Thank you
Lovely holiday in a spotless house
Lovely holiday at The Post House, all of us enjoyed kayaking and crabbing. Wonderful walks across the coast. Teas and lunches at The Swan and Ship (The Swan made us feel very welcome). The House was spotless and perfect for all the families. Thank you, had an amazing Royal week-end.
A marvellous location
We so enjoyed our stay in The Post House - what a marvellous location - something for everyone. The House was so comfortable, you had thought of everything! We even had good weather! Many thanks
We have had a brilliant time
This is a lovely house and so well equipped. We have had a brilliant time and would love to come back.
Noss Mayo is beautiful and there is so much to do for such a small place. The Butchers in Newton Ferrers has really good meat and local eggs and the croissants from the Post Office are nice too. We also had lovely food at The Ship!
Many thanks - June 2011
Great house, excellent location, beautiful views
Weather allowed us to walk every day apart from one and what superb views there were. Managed to cover Noss, Newton Ferrers, Wembury, Heybrook Bay, Beacon Hill - all spectacular and varied.
Food at the Ship was particularly good quality. The Old Wheel at Wembury had just been refurbished & we had a warm welcome & good food...there is good pub grub at The Swan
Many thanks
The place beat all our expectations
Such a beautiful setting and a house to take full advantage of it.
There was always going to be too much to do in one week...Two weeks were definitely needed.
Would definitely recommend - June 2011
Everything you could possibly want
Lovely house...location couldn't be better the views from the windows are beautiful and forever changing. Great walks and despite some rain managed to get out and about every day. Party of six ranging from 29 to 62 and everyone enjoyed the week...
Will be back - June 2011
A wonderful week
House is perfect: comfortable, clean, wonderful views and perfect for any age. Coastal path walk is really lovely and doable with a buggy. Ship Inn has great ood and we enjoyed drinks at the Swan whilst our son had fun crabbing. Hired a row boat from Phil [Carter] which was lots of fun.
Tea Room at the Green [Newton Ferrers] was very enjoyable - delicious coffee, cake and fry up.
Hope to come back again and will definitely recommend to friends and family. Thanks again - July 2011
