An ideal location for families - Nendaz has been the proud holder of the Swiss Tourism Federation "Families Welcome" accreditation since 1997.
Winter - With its frozen lake on the Tracouet plateau above the village, Nendaz is an ideal location for children and beginners. A snow garden and specially adapted installations allow children to discover the joys of skiing in a fun way. Attractive rates for ski passes for families are available. A nursery welcomes children from 18 months upwards and allows parents the freedom to explore the beautiful mountain terrain surrounding the village.
In the Summer, from the Rhône valley to the glaciers, Nendaz has no less than 250km of walks and 200km of mountain-bike trails to offer its visitors. Many of the ski lifts and cable cars are still operational during the summer, allowing hikers to go for high altitude walks and mountain bikers to access the dramatic downhill trails.
A particular highlight is the excursion by cableway or mountain bike to the glacier on Mont Fort, with its expansive view of twenty 4,000 metre peaks, including the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc.
Owing to the dry climate of the Valais, farmers centuries ago built a system of irrigation channels (calles 'bisses' or 'suonen') across the region. Nendaz has the biggest network of these bisses, some of which are still used, and 98 km of footpaths now run along 8 of them. As one of the biggest raspberry and apricot growing areas in Switzerland, Nendaz has dedicated one of the local themed trails to fruit growing. There is also a hike to some of the biggest larch trees in Europe on the Balavaux Alp (Isérables) or, if you have a taste for the exotic, take a stroll through the Japanese Garden.
For the active visitor, there is also the opportunity to experience paragliding or to go pony-trekking, and there are various other activities available in the village.
For music lovers, Nendaz hosts the International Alp-Horn Festival every July, the biggest event of its kind in Switzerland with more than 100 players of all nationalities, and in July and August a Classical Guitar Festival is held, with concerts for lovers of classical music including works from the baroque and contributions from South America and Russia.

Winter - In Winter, the ski domain is unique and varied, ranging in altitude from 1,359m to 3,300m and comprising 412km of pistes with 92 ski lifts. World Cup races take place on the "Piste de l'Ours" above Veysonnaz and in April, the Glacier Patrol, a bi-annual high alpine world competition runs from Zermatt or Arolla to Verbier. In addition, Mont Fort hosts the 'XSpeedski' World Cup FIS final for the World's fastest skiers. For freeriders, the O’Neill Xtreme by Swatch, when the world’s top freeriders demonstrate their skills at dizzy heights on slopes, rocky cliffs and in narrow gorges, is held in Verbier in March and the Nendaz Freeride, held shortly before the Xtreme is the Swiss round of the Freeride World Qualifier for entry into the Freeride World Tour. Summer - In the Summer, the area is ideal for walking and mountain-biking. The Grand Raid Cristalp, the longest and hardest mountain bike race in the world, is held each August. 4000 competitors attempt a course 131 km long from Verbier via Nendaz to Grimentz with a 4600 m difference in altitude. Golfers are also well catered for. There are 18-hole courses in Verbier (2) and Sion and Crans-Montana has a long golfing tradition - the 18-hole Severiano Ballesteros Golf Course with its breath-taking views is situated on the high plateau of Crans. The international elite meet here every year for golfing tournaments, including the European Open. Other Attractions: - Grande Dixence dam in the Val d'Hérémence - at 285 metres high, the highest dam in the world. Daily guided tours inside the dam wall (June to September). - Sion: the medieval capital of the Canton of Valais and oldest city in Switzerland, with its historic townscape dominated by the imposing fortified hill castle of Valère which commands a stunning view. Sion is located in the middle of one of the most important wine-growing regions in Switzerland; Fendant, the region's white wine is particularly well known. - Cow processions and cow fights – the combative Eringer (Hérens) cows of the Valais fight for the title of "Queen" (end of June / beginning of July). - Saillon-les-Bains: a small town of Neolithic and Roman origins with a variety of attractions including thermal baths. - Underground lake near St-Léonard – from March to November, there are boat trips on Europe's largest underground lake, situated between Sion and Sierre.

At the roundabout in front of the tourist information, take the first exit and drive through the village centre.
