The Swiss Alps / Valais/Swiss Alps region Nendaz is at the heart of the Alps in the Valais region which is the sunniest region in Switzerland. Whether you want activity or relaxation in the Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter you’ll discover breathtaking scenery stretching out over the Rhone valley and the 4,000m high mountains that dominate it. In Winter, you can treat yourself to a paradise of skiing. Haute-Nendaz is at 1250m with 412kms of piste and its own glacier - Mont-Fort, where the skiing goes up to 3330m. Nendaz is part of the 4-Valleys with its 92 ski lifts and 412 km of pistes presenting a unique and varied skiing area. The northern exposure of Nendaz, the high altitude and the Mont-Fort glacier (at 3,300m) guarantee snow from December to April. For children, the Tracouet ski area is a great place at the top of the mountain to have your first experiences of snow and includes a snow garden, 3 ski schools, a nursery and numerous activities for lots of fun. Tracouet is directly above Haute-Nendaz, linked by Telecabines from the town centre, a couple of minutes ski down from the chalet. As well as the very good snow record of Nendaz it has the Swiss 'Family Friendly' award; the village is picturesque and offers all the services of a big resort: a range of shops, nursery, ski school, ice rink, restaurants, bars, discos, sports shops, a wide variety of commerce, and activities for all. In spring, summer and autumn you can discover the area on foot via the 98km network of 8 Bisses, which are paths that run alongside the irrigation canals and have the advantage of being along the contour lines providing very enjoyable walking. They pass through mountain pastures and woodland and provide stunning views of the valleys, villages and mountains. For more strenuous outings there are 250km of walks to reach the summits. For amateur and advanced mountain bikers there are 10 circuits for all levels. For kids there are many sporting activities organised by the Tourist Office, archery, mountain biking, tennis, climbing, beach volleyball, football, outdoor swimming pool with spectacular views, Robin Hood excursions for the little ones... Nendaz has a Country Zone to capture the spirit of the countryside and its customs: tales and legends in the narrow streets of the old village, the making (and tasting!) of alpine dairy cheese and a trip to its historic mill offer glimpses of its traditional roots.
