A taste of Marrakech
The Riad was a great place to stay. Since it was out of the main tourist area, we felt we were able to experience what life was like for locals in Marrakech rather than just tourists. Our room was really lovely and Badr and the two ladies couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Our room was always immaculate whenever we came home and I will admit to being quite messy! The food at the riad was the best we tasted all holiday.
Fantastic trip to a mad place
We had a great time staying at the riad. Youssef and his staff did all that they could to make our stay a great one.We like to think that we left as friends.Aicha had the best time ever on the camel in the sahara .As for the riad it is clean with great staff just a short walk from the square and souks.
Very friendly and welcoming
What an experience !! Youseff and Badr were always on hand to help with anything and would go out of their way for any request, and were always happy to have a chat.
We stayed in the Rose suite which was spacious and comfy, with satellite tv and air-conditioning. The breakfasts were lovely and you can also have dinner, the food was always delicious.
The roof terrace was a great place to relax after a hard days shopping in the Souks. There is also an indoor living room and terrace to relax and share the days adventures.
We were made to feel very welcome from the minute we arrived.
The most welcoming riad I've ever visited
From the airport pickup to the final farewells, Badr and the ladies at Riad Shaden could not have done more to make our famly stay more delightful. The food was exceptional. The rooms are well appointed with extremely comfy beds. It really is an oasis in a very traditional part of the medina. It is a bit of walk from the main square but handy for Bab Aylen and taxi pick ups/drop offs.
Home from home in Marrakech
Lovely, warm, welcoming Riad in a non-touristy, residential area in the east of the medina. Classic Riad experience of stepping into a secret garden at the end of a most unpromising approach. The staff were genuinely welcoming, attentive and helpful. Good home cooking including best soup we had during our 2 weeks in Morocco. We were in the rose room - spacious for a Riad, scattered rose petals, nice sitting area, TV and air con.
Fantastic food and friendly service
It was a real surprise to walk through the big wooden door in the dirty lane to arrive on a little oasis!
The food we ate at the Riad was amazing! The best we had! The service was amazing also, everyone was so friendly and warm.
Definitely recommend it to anyone.
Shiny happy people
What a very lovely surprise this riad was! It was tucked away down a narrow, quite scruffy alley but opened up like an oasis. It was pretty, bright, beautifully decorated and very clean. The staff were delightful - good humoured, super- helpful, discreet and willingly offered us breakfast at 6am on departure. Not only that but they insisted on accompanying us to the city gate to ensure we met with the correct taxi driver. A wonderful place to stay and only a 15 minute walk into Djemaa square along a friendly street.
A perfect base to explore a dynamic vibrant city
Arriving at the Riad was like stepping into another world. Youssef talked us through the main attractions and gave us very clear directions (and maps!) to find the main square, which is a very pleasant and simple 10-15 minute walk away.
The rooms were simply but beautifully decorated with traditional Moroccan furnishings and textiles. I especially enjoyed the roof terrace where the shared cat, Mimoun, sometimes suns himself. Food was plentiful, delicious and very reasonably priced for three-course evening meals. Breakfast of Moroccan pancakes and breads with honey, jam, coffee and tea was served whenever we chose to get up by the lovely girls who work at the Riad.
Throughout, the staff at Riad Shaden went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. I really enjoyed the daytrip organised by Youssef to a Berbar village and waterfalls, with a trip to the Hammam to relax in the evening. However, the highlight of our stay was exploring the souks and bargaining with the traders, then showing off our buys in the Riad for approval by Badr.
Riad Shaden is the ideal option for young or older travellers who are looking for a real insight into Marrakech. Youssef, Badr and Sanaa are the perfect hosts, and have convinced us to return as soon as we are able!
Reciprocity and respect
This review is just a thank-you to you all at Riad Shaden for our intro to Marrakech; Thanks for a few days of attentiveness, charm and wit... nothing was too much trouble and I gained the impression that we made friends.
Never got lost; never lost anything.. lots of street language, body language..... yes, learned lots... thanks to the smiles and maybe due to my 'certain' age, I was made to feel secure wherever we went...
Good luck to you all... til we meet again.
All the best, D.
