La Ferme des Marmottes is neatly tucked away at the end of a private lane within 5000 square metres of slightly sloping land that is perfect for kids and snowmen alike.
There is a single button beginners' lift at the end of the garden, the main lifts of Les Houches are 3 minutes' drive away and Chamonix town a short 10 minutes away.
Old wood has been used throughout and the combination of this, the exposed stonework, contemporary glass work and locally sourced granite and slate has created a beautiful home.
The perfect blend of sumptuous luxury, original farmhouse structure and classic chalet style means that simply put, it is to die for!
The farmhouse takes less than an hour's easy drive to reach from Geneva airport and a lockable garage can house two cars alongside the boot room.
There are some great family-run restaurants a short walk away and if dining in, the kitchen is fully equipped with all mod cons including a chef quality Lacanche range cooker. A separate pantry keeps all the Emile Henry cookware and crockery conveniently stored. There are of course the requisite fondue sets and restaurant style raclette machine.
For the children, there is a mezzanine floor with large TV, DVD player and Xbox 360 Kinect. There is a selection of toys and also board games for both children and adults. Ipods can be played through the BOSE speaker system.
The 5 good sized bedrooms all have en suite bath / shower rooms or both and have individual styles.
The focal points of the farmhouse are the fireplaces : an original, large stone fireplace in the drawing room and a beautiful, old wood chimney fireplace in the living area. This fireplace can be fully opened up and can be seen on all 4 sides.
The drawing room has a large library of books, huge velvet reading chairs and club sofas.
The main living area is all on the main floor with a large balcony and truly impressive views of the Mont Blanc range. Logically designed and beautifully laid out, the open plan concept blends seamlessly from kitchen with breakfast bar, to dining area and main lounge all wrapped around an impressive central fireplace. The volume of this floor is majestic and each piece of furniture has been carefully selected to reflect the desire for La Ferme des Marmottes to become a reference in the valley for style, elegance, comfort and understated luxury.

Traditional chalet luxury with a modern twist
My husband and I stayed at La Ferme des Marmottes over New Year 2011/12 and from the moment we stepped through the gorgeous double doors into the exquisite reception area with its impressive antler chandelier, we knew we were in for a treat. The ground floor drawing room with its sumptuous wing-backed chairs, leather chesterfield sofa and huge stone fireplace was the perfect place to curl up apres ski with a good book and a glass of our favourite tipple – although it was a tough choice between that and the living area upstairs with it's spectacular central chimney. The bedrooms are all beautifully decorated with a stylish and quirky eye for detail (a stuffed pig in oriental silks on my bedside table...) and reindeer furs are liberally strewn across the floors - making it a pleasure to pad around barefoot. I'm a huge fan of Les Houche anyway, with it's pretty, tree-lined runs, upmarket mountain restaurants and short lift queues, and this spectacular chalet has just made it an even more perfect choice for a ski holiday destination.
super smart ski accommodation
The moment we passed through the double doors we knew we had made the perfect choice. Conveniently place in Les Houches the chalet combines warmth with luxury. With 2 log fires blazing there is the choice a quiet place for reading or the opportunity for a social evening in the lounge around the large central fire on the 1st floor. Bedrooms with en suites are all beautifully furnished and the library provides a wide choice of reading.
Cozy Christmas wonderland
We'd never been skiing before but this was the perfect place to learn. The beautiful chalet surroundings meant that as beginners we enjoyed getting cozy by the fireplace, as much as we did being out on the slopes. The chalet really is stunning and we spent the most incredible Christmas day there. The rooms are spacious, yet welcoming and beautifully decorated. We really enjoyed the details like underfloor heating throughout and the vast library of books to choose from, when you simply want to unwind after a day on the slopes. The chalet is perfectly located, within walking distance from local supermarkets and it was very easy to rent all our equipment with various rental shops very close by. We also enjoyed the nearby baby slope ( a 2 min walk) and button lift which was an excellent way of getting in some extra practice without having to get the bus to the main slopes. Excellent sledging opportunities here for the kids too. I can't recommend La Ferme des Marmottes enough. It was truly magical and we can't wait to return!
