Description
In 2008 Woolshaw Castle won an interior design award for its imaginative use of contemporary design within a traditional property. However, this Grade II folly which looks like a Norman castle, started life in the early 19th Century as a farmhouse and barn for breeding shire horses.
These were converted into a castle by the rich owners of a woollen mill in the mid 19th century. The family never lived there: they just wanted to create a view of a castle which they could see from their own large house.
The castle boasts battlements, towers with arrow slit windows and arch headed windows.
The cottage next to the castle was used by the farm manager but over the years the properties gradually fell into disrepair.
The buildings were bought and partially modernised in 1964, before being sold in 2002 to the current owners who have created a wonderful contemporary interior and converted the stable block into a fantastic indoor swimming pool and gym.
The ruins of a mill stand in the twelve-acre grounds and there is also a working water wheel.

The castle is on three floors, with interior and exterior access to a swimming pool via an indoor bridge. Outside there is a hot tub on raised decking.
There is extensive parking to the front and rear of the property and there is additional parking for 100 cars on adjacent land by prior arrangement. There is a private driveway with electric gates and remote key-less access fob provided for guests. The castle is set in a deer park with a herd or Manchurian sika.
Indoor swimming pool: Heated pool with removable cover. Private shower and toilet facilities. Lounge area with leather sofas, sound system, plasma satellite television.
Gym: Air-conditioned with treadmill, cross trainer, free weights, bench weights, Sound system, extensive mirrors and windows to plasma television.

Woolshaw Castle is situated approximately 20 miles form Leeds and 25 miles from Manchester and a five minute drive from J24 of the M62. It's a hidden away countryside setting is the perfect getaway throughout the year. Whilst the property is offered on a self-catering basis, our local chef can provide private dining to include full English breakfast, dinner or catering for parties and special occasions. A housekeeper is included in the rental, to provide daily linen and towel change with discreet service and times by arrangement. Whilst we do not provide a cot, a travel cots can easily be accommodated in 3 of the bedrooms. Please note that no more than 10 people are allowed in the building for insurance reasons.
