Short breaks available (3 night weekend or 4 night midweek), usually during low season but please telephone to discuss. Travel cot and high chair available to hire.

Changeover day
Preferred changeover day for most guests is Saturday but this may be flexible subject to discussion. Christmas and New Year holidays may require us to change this. Arrival time is after 4pm and departure time is by 10.00am.

Description

Wayside Cottage is located just half a mile from Cartmel village and is set in beautiful open countryside next to a babbling brook and overlooking the Racecourse. Perfect views all around and ample parking. Once parked at Wayside Cottage there is plenty to keep you occupied without having to get back into your car. One of Cartmel's main visitor attractions is the magnificent 800 year old Priory. Cartmel boasts L'Enclume Restaurant (Michelin Star rated), Rogan & Co Bistro, 4 pubs, antique & craft shops and also 'Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding'/Deli which is renowned across UK! For those wishing to discover the Lakes, Grange-over-Sands, a seaside town is 5 mins drive away. Holker Hall and Levens Hall are close to hand whilst Kendal, Windermere and Hawkshead, just a few miles further on, make for a longer scenic journey into some of England's most stunning countryside. At the heart of the cottage is a spacious, split-level living area. There are 2 bathrooms - one upstairs and one down.

Bedrooms One and Two
Accessed via the concealed staircase, these pretty, traditionally styled bedrooms, are at once homely, comfortable and welcoming. Both are good sized doubles with plenty of space and oustanding views.

Bedroom Three (Ground Floor)
Accessed from a door off the dining area, this large twin-bedded room has a truly panoramic view of the Cumbrian landscape. This bedroom has it's own separate shower/toilet - located off the 'Snug area'.

The Snug & Bedroom Four (en-suite)
If you feel the need to escape...this is the room! Overlooking the meadows and the driveway, this light, airy and comfortable room, forms the fourth bedroom when required.
With it’s own TV, music and en-suite shower facilities, it makes an ideal family area.

Good sized family bathroom with bath/electric shower and wc is located on first floor. Additional (electric) shower room and wc on ground floor to service downstairs twin bedroom.

Open plan kitchen, lounge and dining area makes for comfortable and inclusive accommodation. Beautiful views from the kitchen sink too! Conveniently situated between the living area and the cosy 'snug'.

At the heart of the cottage is a spacious, split-level, living area.
At one end is the sitting area, with comfortable sofas and featuring a large sandstone fire place, raised hearth and open grate for log fires. Ideal for those cosy autumn/winter days or cool summer evenings.
At the other end is the raised dining area, with a comfortable six-seater dining table. Again this offers an idyllic environment to relax and socialise with friends and family.
From here the French windows lead out onto the rear patio, which is ideal for those ‘must have’ Summer barbecues.
The 'Snug' overlooks the meadows and can be used as a quiet reading room. Double sofabed is ideal for children. Direct access to downstairs shower room/toilet.

Wayside Cottage is an idyllic retreat - set in the middle of unspoilt countryside yet still convenient for the village or walks from the front door. Sit in the sun at the front of the cottage or on the secluded patio to rear/side overlooking the beck and meadows - perfect for sunny breakfasts or evening sun-downers! Plentiful parking to the front of the cottage.

The cottage is located exactly half a mile from Cartmel village. A car is recommended if you wish to fully explore the whole Lake District area but one can enjoy a local holiday on foot or public transport. Wayside Cottage is also ideal as a base for a cycling holiday and there is also a 'horse riding, shooting & fishing' facility within a short drive.
Much more information about where to go and what to see can be provided on request and is also contained within the cottage.

Local leisure activites

Grange-over-Sands, the local seaside town is only a few minutes drive away from Cartmel. A vast array of Lake District visitor attractions are within easy striking distance of Wayside Cottage.

Cartmel Village has it's own 'Spar' but for those special treats the 'Sticky Toffee Pudding Shop/Deli' is a must. Cartmel also offers a wide range of pubs, coffee shops, eateries, restaurants, galleries, antiques and gift shops. Grange-over-Sands has many independent traders as well as supermarket shopping and banks. For a much wider choice of shopping Kendal is less than half an hour away. Kirkby Lonsdale is definitely worth a shopping visit and lunch stop.

Directions

Travel
From Manchester, Cartmel is approximately 1.5 hrs drive. Take junction 36 off the M6 and follow A590 Newby Bridge signs. The dual carriageway section takes c. 15 mins. Just before the High Newton bypass take the left turn sign posted 'Cartmel Priory' and follow signs to Cartmel. From the village centre, take the right hand fork at the Sticky Toffee Pudding Shop. Wayside Cottage is exactly half mile down the Racecourse road, located off a small private drive on the right hand side.

Distances
Just a short walk outside of Cartmel village centre. A car is recommended if you wish to fully explore the whole Lake District area. Our cottage is also ideal as a base for a cycling holiday.
