Apart from a little shopping and perhaps cooking, our staff look after you from the start of your holiday until you leave refreshed and energised! They even supply you with fresh produce from our fruit trees and vegetable garden and our guests are encouraged to help themselves to any produce that is in season.
With the addition of Easyjet flights direct to the island (we already have Thompson, Thomas Cook and Aegean/Olympic) from April to October, our guests have now got a more flexible timetable to choose from and with this longer season, they will now be able to enjoy the wonderful spring and autumn months.
Kefalonia, the largest of the Ionian Islands, has a beauty all of its own; it comes from the tree covered mountains (particularly around the Sami area), beautiful white-stoned or sandy beaches and the clear azure water of the many coves and bays. The valleys and hillsides are covered in olive groves and orchards. Summer arrives in mid May and lasts until mid October. If you are not relaxing at home or on the beach, there are many charming villages and towns to visit, museums, archaelogical sites dating from Mycenean and Roman times, churches, caves and wonderful walks (there various marked walks to special places of interest) or cycle rides with views for inward and outward eyes to feast on.
The Walnut Tree's central position on the island ensures easy access to Kefalonia's airport, the capital of Argostoli and other major attractions which include the cave/lake of Melissani, famous Myrtos Beach and the beautiful little port of Fiskardo. Activities available locally are sailing, diving, snorkelling, windsurfing, cycling, walking and a good deal of lazing about around the pool drinking in the beautiful views! There is a very good riding school just outside the town. There are tennis courts at Karavomolis. At Antisamos beach, there are all the usual beach attractions - windsurfing, pedalos, water-sking, etc. There are plenty of delightful restaurants, bars and cafes within a short drive in Karavomilos, Agia Efimia and Poulata. Three kilometers away, the bustling port of Sami has ATMs, post office, medical centre, tourist office, supermarkets and shops and of course a great choice of restaurants, bars and tavernas. However, the charm of The Walnut Tree is its wonderful views of surrounding green countryside, the mountains and the sea.

| Car required? |
recommended There is a bus twice a day from the top of our track - to Sami and on to Argostoli. Taxis are easily booked - so it is not absolutely necessary to have a car. However, we do advise that our guests book car hire. Kefalonia's attractions are well worth exploring and it is the biggest Ionian island and a good infrastructure - improving all the time. |
| Local leisure activities |
There is a riding stable just the other side of Sami (6 kilometres away) and an excellent diving school at Aghia Efimia (8 milometres from the villa). There are excellent opportunities for mountain biking and walking in the mountains all over Kefalonia and particularly around the villa. The tennis courts are at Karavomilos (2 kilometres from the villa). They are two and free. Sami Beach Hotel also has a court where they hire out racquets and balls. Fishing trips can be arranged from Sami port and from Aghia Efimia, where you can also hire sailing boats and small motor boats for exploring the island's beaches.
