Villa Helena is a new, luxurious, private villa offering magnificent, uninterrupted views over Kalamar Bay. Peaceful and tranquil, Kalamar is an ideal place to relax and enjoy mountain and sea views, yet only five minutes drive from bustling Kalkan.
The villa is spacious, comprising on the ground floor, an open plan sitting room and dining area, private pool with sun beds and an outside shower. It is also complete with a fully equipped kitchen, utility room and bathroom on this floor.
On the first floor there are two double bedrooms both with en suite bathrooms and balconies overlooking the sea. The second floor also has two double bedrooms, one master double with en-suite plus Jacuzzi bath and one twin bedded with a separate bathroom. Both bedrooms share a large terrace, with comfortable seating and again spectacular sea views.
The third floor comprises a small kitchen and a large roof terrace with a dining table for 10. The villa is fully air conditioned and has private garaging for two cars.
Access to the villa is through a security gate, up steps to the pool area at the front of the villa. There are two private garages at street level as well.
All bedrooms and living areas have air conditioning which can also provide heat on chillier evenings. Mosquito repellent plugs and hairdryers are also provided.
On arrival, the owners supply a complimentary welcome hamper and an information file, containing emergency numbers, details of our agents and general information about the stay. The owners also provide a pre-paid mobile with useful contact numbers.
Please note that the pool is not fenced off and does not have a shallow end. The tiles in the pool area may get slippery when wet, and care should be taken, particularly by those with younger children. Toddlers would need supervision at all times. Unfortunately, not suitable for people with mobility problems or wheelchair users.
The outside layout of the house is pretty on its own way. French windows from the living area open directly onto the covered terrace and comfortable seating area for 6 together with a marble dining table seating four people and perfect for a late night suppers for parents.
The private pool area has a separate shower, comfortable sun beds, umbrellas and an assortment of colourful bougainvillea and other native plants and is separated from its neighbours by traditional stone walls with alcove lighting. Here, guests can relax in privacy, read, swim and enjoy panoramic views of the mountains and uninterrupted views of Kalamar bay.
A five minute stroll will take the guests to Kalamar Beach Club where there are sun beds, a restaurant, internet access, and a variety of water sports available. In Kalkan there is a small, pretty pebble beach with sun beds and umbrellas. There are a wide variety of restaurants close to the beach for a relaxing lunch.
Kaputas beach is a 10 minute drive/taxi ride away and Patara Beach, 12 miles of sand with its own archaeological site, is just a 20minute drive and makes a wonderful picnic spot.
Kalkan started life as a small fishing village. The word means “turbot” as it has managed to combine a traditional feel, with narrow streets, white-washed houses, and an abundance of colour, with all the necessary amenities. It has supermarkets, a post office, banks with ATM machines, a medical centre, chemists, dentist, internet cafes, together with a wide assortment of shops selling everything from Turkish rugs, traditional clothes, jewellery, souvenirs etc, to modern boutiques and leather shops.
There is a market every Thursday which is well worth a visit. It sells all sorts of local produce, teas, spices, pottery and even ‘designer’ clothes and watches.
One of the most enjoyable things to do is to charter one of the boats in the harbour and enjoy a day cruising round the bay, swimming off the boat and sampling a delicious lunch on board. For those who are not hiring a car, local agents can arrange trips to the many archaeological sites including Kekova, Saklikent Gorge, Xanthos, Letoon, and many more, all close to Kalkan.
Perhaps Kalkan is most famous for its restaurants from the simple to the sophisticated. Guests could dine out every night and not go to the same restaurant twice. It caters for all tastes from traditional Turkish, to International cuisine with many restaurants with roof terraces overlooking Kalkan bay.
The village really comes into its own at night and for those who enjoy a night life, there are many bars and discos. Nearly all establishments have English speaking staff.

recommended Dalaman airport, the nearest, is about 1.5 hours drive away. There are plenty of charter flights available and the airport is now open all year round. Given notice, we can arrange transfers. It’s not essential to hire a car. Local transport is good, with taxis and buses (Dolmus) easily available and cheap. However, there are no shops in Kalamar and with the private parking spaces available, a car would give you complete freedom to explore the region as and when you want. |

alkan is about 1.5km away. It takes 5 minutes by taxi or a 20-25 minute walk. The drive to Kas, the neighbouring village, takes about 25 minutes along a beautiful coastline. There is a market there on Fridays and one in Fethiye on Tuesdays (approx 1 hour drive). Apart from the many historical sites, there are innumerable places to visit – local villages, beaches, mountain walks, local trout farms with restaurants (10 minute drive) and much more, all close to Kalkan.
