    *Large Groups

Las Salinas provides the rare opportunity for friends or family to stay in the same Cortijo for their holiday. The Cortijo is also ideal for a variety of like minded groups from extended families, groups of friends to members of organisations interested in performing arts, music, art, cooking, painting, reading, making music or just relax in the spacious tranquility in the heart of rural Andalucia.

*We have many board games, guitar, bongos, and several MP3 docking stations are available.

*There is a strong mobile phone signal at the Cortijo.

*There are many walks directly from the Cortijo, up to wonderful panoramic views and down to the rio that runs close by. A five minute walk from the Cortijo will take you to the San Juan River which is perfect for an hour or two river walking. During the summer months the depth and current allows for a challenging but manageable river walk for children and all other age groups.

During these walks, many different creatures have been spotted, in particular little water turtles, black dragonflies and various fish , during some months it is possible to collect figs or quince which grow along the riverside.

There are also other river walks further away. A 10 minute car journey will take you to one in particular which is a little more strenuous and finishes with a waterfall which is safe to dive into and swim around and round off with a picnic.

    *Local Fiestas

Commencing 1st May and all through the summer there are continual fiestas in local villages and towns. Any excuse, cherry harvesting, last day of school, every Saints day, every village day, a fiesta for everything! The traditions often date back many hundreds of years. Some are quaint with music, dancing and sociability, they are all very lively and noisy, often starting at 10 in the evening and carrying on to 4 or 5 in the morning with some lasting several days.

Not to be missed is the annual Etno Sur music Fiesta which is held 2nd weekend July and attracts thousands from all over the world.

    *Mountain Biking

This part of Andalucia is remote and natural. The area offers superb biking, including tough climbs and long descents, miles of tracks through the olive groves, as well as more gentle trails.
It’s pretty much mountainous everywhere here, so the scope is huge. What makes it even more appealing is the hundreds of kilometres of carrils or rough tracks that lead through olive groves and criss-cross shortcuts everywhere. As long as you don’t cause damage to the sacred olives, you are allowed just about anywhere. Just check out Google earth - it’s incredible. We can drive 20km on tarmac roads around the hills or walk/bike it on a rough track in just 5km.

    *Tapas

Tapa is the Spanish word for lid and originated in Andalucia. Bars put saucers covering the top of a wine or beer glass. In doing so, the wine was protected from the air and the flies and a few slices of ham or cheese on top made a tasty appetizer.
The area around Cortijo Las Salinas is the last remaining area in Spain where bars give free food with a drink. This area is renowned throughout Spain for the quality of its Tapas.
Tapas is not only a casual way of eating but also a way of having a good time, the opportunity to meet other people, and at the same time indulge yourself with food and wine. A way of life common to all Andalucians.
It is quite possible to spend the whole evening drinking and eating the tapas without needing to buy dinner at all. Each alcoholic drink is served with a small but varying Tapas, Russian salad, chicken wings, olives, jamon (ham) tortilla, meat balls, cheese or just crisps. Larger Tapas, called raciones are paid for. A visit to several bars in Alcala la Real or Alcaudete will allow you to experience the tapas culture.
