Set on gentle slopes with a backdrop of Kogel Eco Park fynbos, Plover villa offers sweeping views of the Kogel valley and the Bablionsberg and Hottentots Hollands mountains. It is designed to maximise the views over the valley, vineyards and more.

This split-level villa has a spacious open plan living room with DSTV and log fire, dining area and well equipped open-plan kitchen that leads onto the dining veranda. A washing machine and dryer are installed in the adjoining double garage and braai facilities provided on the verandas. Plover's three large bedrooms are all with magnificent views and are en-suite with shower and bath.

A small pool flows into a larger swimming pool set into the natural rock. There is also a jacuzzi. The villa's verandas overlooks the olive groves, lavender fields and vineyards surround the house offering spectacular views of the Kogel valley to the South Atlantic Ocean in the distance at Walker Bay and of the surrounding mountain ranges.

The property is located in the Western Cape region where Barton encompasses 500 acres of area which lies to the east of the Cape's Hottentots Holland mountain range. The area is famous for its fruit farms, vineyards, and fynbos.

Visitors are welcome to walk the farms tracks, picnic, birdwatch and fly-fish for trout. Barton's vineyards at latitude 34 degrees south are some eleven kilometres from the South Atlantic coast in the wine ward of Walker Bay. Planted on the south slopes of the Kogelberg mountains 190 metres above sea level they absorb the cooling sea breezes from Walker Bay. The frost free, cool climate and southerly aspect induces a slow and extended grape ripening period and consequent good colour and tannin formation for the red wines and concentrated fruit and acidity for the white wines. The sub soil is gravelly sandstone interspersed with quartz, ironstone and clay.

Walking and Trekking

Visitors can hike through the Kogelberg National Eco Park's many well-maintained trails, which are within a short driving distance of the farm. Alternatively guests can simply take off into the Kogelberg mountains behind the villas.

Whale Watching

Guests can watch whales from several beaches and headlands in the vicinity, or take a whale-watching boat trip from Hermanus in the June to December months.

Diving

Instruction, hire of equipment and diving trips are available at Hermanus. White shark cage diving – for those with a sense of adventure – can be arranged at Gansbaai.

Scenic Drives

There are a number of world-class scenic drives within a short distance of Barton Farm, destinations include Greyton, Stellenbosch, Franchoek, Swellendam, Gordon's Bay, Betty's Bay and Cape Aghulas (the southernmost point of Africa).

Beaches

There are extensive uncrowded, sandy beaches around Onrus, Kleinmond and Hermanus.

Fly-fishing

Barton's dam is stocked with Rainbow Trout, and guests are more than welcome to cast a fly.

Tennis

Barton Farm's hard court, with its mountain views, is available to all guests. Racquets and balls may be borrowed on request.

Golf

Barton Farm is just 5 minutes' drive from the Arabella championship golf course. There are also golf courses in Hermanus (a thirty minute drive) and Kleinmond (a twenty minute drive). The farm has its own short hole and putting greens.
