Hastings Towers represents the best of both worlds. Easy access to Bridgetown and cricket at the Kensington Oval, and only 5 minutes from horse racing at the Garrison Savannah. However, its main attraction is its ideal location for access to the many South Coast beaches starting with Hastings Beach across the road and continuing down past Rockley to the popular St Lawrence Gap and beyond. Obviously a choice of dining from fine to extremely reasonable is all available within 10 minutes of the Hastings Towers, and the ability to shop is almost continuous.
Stay during April 2009
We have recently returned from a stay in Hastings Tower.
Although not particularly attractive from the outside, the condo was clean and comfortable with all the facilities required for an enjoyable stay. The friendly and helpful housekeeper was a definite plus point! We found the property a little noisy - on one count from the busy main road that fronts the block and secondly from the building work that was taking place in the block during our stay. However, the situation near the main road made access to the beach and transport very convenient. The buses are very frequent and cheap, an excellent way of seeing the island. There are a few restaurants within walking distance, some of the fast food variety and others for the more discerning customer such as the delightful Aqua. Should you wish to self cater there is a large supermarket but it is a good 20/25 minutes walk so if not hiring a car it would be wise to take a bus or taxi.
Not to be missed:- A trip on the Cool Runnings cataraman, the Sunday Scenic Bus tour from Independence Square, Bridgetown, Oistins fish fry on a Friday night and a meal at Aqua! Try to avoid:- Using the buses at school finishing times - they become impossibly crowded and make for a very uncomfortable ride!
All in all a good value apartment which will be enhanced further when the redevelopment of the immediate area has been completed.
Our holiday in Barbados
The appartment in Hastings Towers was great and comfortable for the four of us. The location is also good, close to public transport, shops and the beach.
In the local area we would recomend FRED'S bar on the main road 2 min walk towards Bridgetown, which does good food at a fair price.
We would recomend this appartment and are returning next year.
Sharon, Robert, Mike and Susan.
Marvellous Vacation at Hastings Towers
We returned from Barbados earlier this month after a marvellous 2 week vacation, we stayed at Hastings Towers and that added much to our experience , we would stay there again.
The condo was as the owner James had advertised. It was adequately appointed, great location...the gateway to several venues, a beautiful beach and board walk were directly across the street, several restaurants, easy access to public transportation into the City (Bridgetown) and beyond, the service was frequent and economical, taxis were a phone call away.
Beverley the house keeper was a plus.
St. Matthias Anglican Church was 7 minutes walk away, the priests and the congregation were warm and welcoming.
A mini-mart ( small convenience store) was one minute walk away, two larger , well stocked super markets were a little further away, about 10 min by car, taxi or bus.
Hastings Towers was within easy reach of St. Lawrence Gap, lots of activities there, good night life too ,and the Oistins fish fry on a Friday night. The historical Garrison district, Museum, George Washington House and a large display of canons from ancient British wars were all within walking distance as well as several beautiful beaches.
A bank with full service and ATM was one minute walk away.
A group of medical doctors and a pharmacy were also close by.
There was a constant breeze through the condo when both patio doors were open.
We especially enjoyed sitting on the patio , looking into the ocean and listening to the waves gently bathing the beautiful , white ,silky sand.
Excellent accomodation in a great area
This was our first visit to Barbados and in James' apartment, but we will return again and again.
Beverley was there to meet us gave us plenty of helpful tips whilst explaining how everything worked. The apartment is fabulous and we spent hours sitting on the balcony watching the sea lapping against the beach, so relaxing.
We were in walking distance of plenty of restaurants, and of course a gorgeous beach just over the road, but transport further afield is very cheap and very regular - and if we did get one of the normal buses or the reggae buses, someone always told us when to get off - The Bajan people are so helpful and really friendly - Would recommend the island, and this apartment to anyone, although it does book up really quickly
A Can't Miss Choice
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The condo was very comfortable and the location was ideal. The view of the ocean from the front balcony is lovely. The boardwalk is across the street so it was easy getting in our early morning walk every day. There are several restaurants nearby and Bridgetown is only a short bus ride away.
Beverley was a delight. She met us upon arrival, provided a tour of the apartment and facilities. She was also very helpful providing bus information and the “must see” places to visit.
Everything you need for a self catering holiday is here. We liked the condo and it’s location and on our second day we went online to book it for 2011 and we were disappointed to find out that it was already taken. Overall, excellent value for the price. We would definitely stay there again
Great Stay
We enjoyed very much our stay in this apartment, which corresponds exacly to the discription and the reviews made.
With the improving surroundings and the good access to everywhere we can highly recommend this accommodation.
Beautiful Barbados
The 3 of us (myself, my wife and daughter) travelled to Barbados in December 2009 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hastings Towers. The location is great, just a short drive or walk to loads of great restaurants and across the street from the great boardwalk, which we strolled every morning and evening. we had a car, but the bus service along the main street is frequent and will take you into the city or to any number of beaches.
James was a great host, staying to meet us on our arrival at the condo at 1:30am, and supplying eggs, milk, coffee, juice and cereal for the next morning so we could hit the ground running.
The beaches in Barbados were stunning, and I would recommend the short trip to Carlisle Beach, which is across from the Barbados Government buildings. The water is like glass and the sandy bottom is soft and inviting.
In short, we highly recommend Hastings Towers and will definitely repeat our stay when we return.
Location Location Location
We just returned from another holiday in Barbados. This is our first time at Hasting Towers and it will not be our last. We absolutely loved it there! My husband and I come often to visit family and vacation on the island where he was born and we always rent our own place to stay.
Hastings Towers is the best yet ! The Condo has everything you need for a comfortable stay including a wonderful housekeeper Beverley who comes every few days to clean and change your linens.
The view from the front balcony is wonderful and we often enjoyed our coffee and breakfast on that terrace while watching the beautiful Sea and listening to the sounds of the island all around.
The EXTREMELY secure building gives you peace of mind while you are away and leaving valuables such as cash or jewelery behind.
Accra Beach is our favourite, is just down the road . This is one of the best places to buy souviniers, beach bags, shirts , dresses jewelry, the ladies are wonderfully pleasant and very helpful. Not to mention ....the prices are right !
Located right below the yellow lifeguard tower is a fella named Junior who will rent you out Beach Chairs and Umbrellas Two for 25 BDS or 12.50 USD for the day. Please remember that this is how these men make a living so don't forget to pay him. More often than not he will find you but he does get busy and we saw some sneaky people which we found quite unflattering to the name of tourist
The Cheffette( Fast Food, I use that term lightly, nothing is ever fast in Barbadian time) LOL is a great place to eat cheaply and get great food.
Eves Garden is a wonderful tiny little place with EXCELLENT local dishes and very cheap.
Tapas is a nice elegant place and Just Grillin is one of my favourites !! These are all located just down the road .
Our two most favourite places are Berts Bar with the Best Banana Daiquiris on the planet the food is great too ! And for a fine Dining meal try Champers, we love it there and the service is second to none. ( make a reservation days in advance or you will not get in) but you will not be disappointed if you go.
If you want a beautiful tour take a day trip on the Tiami Catamaran, this is a trip we take every visit, the crew is excellent , the food and drinks are great and the experience on the water is the best !
We always hire a car but the bus and taxi system is right at your finger tips and very low cost.
Thanks James and Beverley for everything ! Can't wait to Return !!
Great Condo Close to the Barbados IVF Clinic!
My husband and I traveled to Barbados for a two week treatment at the Barbados Fertility IVF clinic. As you may notice nothing in Hastings, Barbados sports an address--the postal people simply know what's what and where it is! I tried looking on Google Maps with no luck (because nothing has an address) but finally just took a gamble on location and guess what?--we were right next door to the clinic which was perfect!! We just walked next door for our every other day treatments.
But you probably want to know about the property. Well, Hastings Towers is in a great location--just 10 yards to the beach and right near the famous boardwalk. The boardwalk took 4 years to complete and my husband and I walked it at least twice a day. It goes from the gorgeous Accra / Rockley beach in front of a few restaurants and down to the residential area. Speaking of restaurants, we recommend Bistro Monet for spring rolls, samosas, fish, and wine. Also try the little dolce gelato place next door for Italian ices and smoothies.
The condo owner James was the perfect host! Not only did he meet us at midnight but also he provided us with get started amenities--milk, OJ, bread, coffee, etc., and believe me, after a long day of flying it was well welcomed! James also got my husband out for an English soccer match, took me to the beach, and popped us over to the grocery store. Now he may not do that for everyone, but he seems so friendly, he just might. The cleaner Beverly did a super job cleaning the accommodations. The condo is exactly as pictured--not the Ritz Carlton, but perfectly comfortable with beautiful views from the balcony and nice extras like iPod player and washer / dryer, etc. Overall we enjoyed our stay and it was great value for money!
Hastings Towers opposite Hastings beach
The lobby of Hastings towers is not impressive but once you reach the apartment via one of the two lifts, your impression changes.
The apartment has two balconies both with a sea view. Open both balcony doors and the trade winds cool the apartment.
Each bedroom has its own air conditioner and ceiling fan. The aircon works very well.
We like to cook a bit (the kitchen has a full size cooker) But the cooking equipment lacked a few things. The owner was most helpful in providing what we needed.
Others have mentioned the air of spaciousness and light this apartment has and that was certainly borne out by our visit. It has two bathrooms which is unusual in an apartment with only two bedrooms.
The lady who manages and cleans the apartment is good fun and is very efficient. If she says she will do something for you she will not stop until it is done (which is a bit unusual in Barbados)
The apartment has a dedicated utility room with a washing machine and dryer as well as an iron, so keeping everything clean was no problem.
We went to Cafe Fred which is a short walk down the road. Fred gives the impression that he is about to commit suicide but instead will cook you an excellent meal at a reasonable price.
The new boardwalk on the other side of the road from the apartment, is well worth a stroll in the evening. It will lead you past several bars and restaurants. The KFC is best avoided unless you are desperate. There was only one cut of chicken available when we went and the staff seemed to wish they were somewhere else. After ten minutes in the queue, we began to wish we were somewhere else as well.
Further down is Tapas. This serves excellent food and the service is second to none. You can eat to the sound of waves breaking on the beach. It gets busy though, so booking is advisable.
Transport is very good. If you stand on the pavement with a bag Taxis will stop without being hailed.
I did some diving with Rogers Scuba Shack which is just up the road at the boatyard. Roger will collect you (without charge) from Hastings towers and runs an excellent operation.
All in all we had a pleasant stay. The apartment is clean, well furnished and gives the impression that someone cares about it. If we had had a problem I am sure it would have been quickly dealt with.
I would certainly reccomend Hastings Towers to a friend.
Simply the best
this summer I consider myself extremely fortunate to have come across one of the very best value apartments to be had in Barbados. I have been coming to Barbados fo 35 years and never before had such enjoyable and well appointed accomodation. The apartment is everything you could ever hope to have for a holiday. It is perfectly situated on the south coast, near to all the amenities and attractions. From the balcony in the lounge, there is a direct sea view with the added benefit of soft sea breezes. In fact there is not one but two balconies which means, with all the doors open, cooling breezes run throughout the apartment. There are two excellent double bedrooms and two bathrooms. There is also an added airbed if needed. The lounge and dining room is most comfortable; there is a well equipped kitchen with everything you could possibly need and there is the added benefit of a separate laundry room with washing machine and dryer. There is also a television and CD radio music system with IPod attachment. The housekeeper is efficient and friendly; the air conditioning kees you cool at night and the private parking space in the secure gated car park all add to the enjoyment of the holiday. I wholeheartedly recommend this terrific value for money apartment to anyone coming to Barbados for the first time or anyone who has been here before but is looking for superb accomodation in a great location.
hasting towers review
This property was clean, well maintained and had everything you needed. It was relly spacious and the view was lovely. The owner had even stocked the fridge with essentials and helped us up with all our luggage. He was in contact with me before the holiday and kept me informed of everything promptly. A very friendly and welcoming man.
The beach is across the road and the shops are nearby, with resturants and a trusty KFC within walking distance. Accra beach, which is a really nice one is only a short walk away too.
I would recommend this property to anyone. I have two small children and was very comfortable in the property.
There is so much space, a well equiped kitchen, washing machine and balcony to relax on.
We will definatley be returning in the future.
Thanks James
My birthday experience
I stayed at James' apartment from 6th june to 28th june. As always the time went way too quick especially as i thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching the world go by and the sun set. The apartment is exactly as it is in the pictures. Beautifully clean and easily accessible to buses, supermarkets, banks, petrol stations. The a/c worked which was a big bonus for us. The apartment is spacious and i found the building to be nice and quiet. There was building going on downstairs but i did not find it intrusive and they certainly did not wake me up. Any problems i had were quickly dealt with once i informed James of them. The apt made my birthday holiday complete and memorable. I have been to Barbados many times staying in various locations and i found this apt to be excellent value for money. The starter pack was useful and Beverley was kind and waited for us even though we were delayed in arriving. I would definitely recommend the apt to everyone i know and will definitely be going back there as soon as i can:-)
Barbados condo
Myself, my wife and my brother, who are now all of a mature age, stayed at the condo from Feb 14th to Mar 2nd, 2009.
The facilities of the apartment are excellent, with two spacious double bedrooms, a comfortable living and dining area, plus a roomy kitchen. Having satellite TV was a bonus, and the view from the balcony is soothing, overlooking the Caribbean. The balcony is small, however, and the area surrounding Hastings Towers has become a little run down.
A big feature for me was security. You need a swipe fob to get into the building, and there is a grilled lock gate approaching the corridor to the apartment, which also has two secure locks. Because the apartment is also on the third floor, anybody wanting to break in would have to plan their attempt meticulously! There are lifts to all floors.
We liked the location of Hastings Towers, although we did not feel that there was a good bar or reasonably priced restaurant on its doorstep.
It is virtually central between the capital Bridgetown and St Lawrence Gap, the latter being the big tourist attraction for nightlife, and you can be at either in minutes via the excellent, cheap and regular bus service - are you listening, Gordon Brown? - or the official taxis, which can be expensive.
A slight negative is, because you are not in a hotel, there is no pool. But the beach, where the sand and sea are glorious, is just across the road.
Barbados is a glorious island, and the locals are kind and friendly, I'd recommend this condo as a perfect base for getting around the island and chilling out during the days or nights. Overall, very good value for money.
We will return!
Excellent location in central Hastings with convenient bus transport 100m away. Good restaurants within 10 minutes walk.
Apartment overlooks beach (need to cross road) with lovely boardwalk to Rockley.
Very well equipped (TV, stereo, washer, drier), super welcome package in fridge. Beautifully overseen by housekeeper Beverley.
We will return!
Hastings Tower Condo
Thanks James for the opportunity to stay at your condo in January 2009. Everything was perfect and the condo was spacious and very clean. The well equipped kitchen and washer/dryer was very convenient also. The location is great and the beach across the street and new boardwalk was excellent. There are several restaurants (fine dining and casual) just a short walk and the bus service also is very handy. Thanks also to Beverley for all the goodies upon our arrival. We had an excellent vacatoin in Barbados and do hope to return!! Thanks again!!
Excellent stay
A very homely condo and very good value for money in what I consider to be the best part of Barbados. Plenty of dining places and facilities such as supermarket and Accra Beach are within easy reach.
The condo is everything it claims to be: everything worked, the kitchen was well equipped, the maid service was good but not obtrusive, the balcony was pleasant and being set back from the main road, was not at all noisy. I would strongly recommend it.
