Plettenberg Bay, excellent for whale watching: While Hermanus claims to be the “world’s best land based whale watching spot”, Plettenberg Bay can say the same thing, while enjoying more hours of sunshine every day as well as a more varied and beautiful setting and stunning beaches. Whale watching in Plettenberg Bay is strictly regulated. Only one boat is allowed to be near a whale. In Plettenberg Bay, whales give birth to their offspring. Sometimes up to 50 couples (mother and children) can be spotted in the bay. While whale season is from May to November, the animals can occasionally be seen in December and April as well. However, this is an exception. Due to the Robberg Peninsula, the marine mammals can also be spotted from the land and from a relatively small distance. Thanks to the maritime and mild climate, the South African winter and the whale season is not too hot, and not extremely cold, either. Perfect for excursions! Excursion paradise – Plettenberg Bay!: Tsitsikamma National Park is South Africa’s second most visited national park after Krüger Park. Being less than an hour drive away from the dreamlike holiday house La Vista, Tsitsikamma National Park can be visited on a day trip. We recommend hiking to the lookout point from the parking and taking your swimming things with you. Not everybody knows that swimming is possible in Tsitsikamma! There are even showers on the small beach next to the restaurant. A welcome cooling-off after the short, but exhausting hike with a difference a few hundred metres in height to the lookout point. Every meter of the hike is worth it! The view is breathtaking. Nature’s Valley is even closer to La Vista. In just a 20 min drive you reach a valley as pristine as thousands of years ago. Only a small village lets you remember civilisation. But the houses are so hidden you could think you are in the middle of the jungle. Beaches close by! Excursion paradise (part 2) – Plettenberg Bay: We recommended you visit the Knysna Friday Market – a very special community experience with snacks, artists and high spirits. It’s a wonderful start to a great weekend. On Saturdays we recommend Harkerville Saturday Market. Excellent coffee shops, such as the Go Doubleshot!, the Hola Café, or the Fournil Bakery de Plett offer finest coffee specialities and even home-made bread with crust according to French baking tradition. The almond croissants alone are worth a trip to Plettenberg Bay. Everyone who loves eating out in an excellent restaurant should go to the LM in Plett, Scotty´s, Lemon Grass Restaurant or nguni´s. Further recommendable excursions are: - Knysna Elephant Park. - Bloukrans Bridge (216 m). - Dolphin Tour. - Keurbooms Lagoon. - Don’t miss going swimming or surfing or learning it. - Visit the Bramon Wine Estate. Plett has a lot more to offer, allows yourself to be surprised! Golf: Golfing with reasonable prices but in a spectacular setting? South Africa, and particularly the Garden Route, is famous for its excellent golf courses. Is it a stunning location or a real challenge? In the surroundings of holiday house La Vista Lodge, there are several world class golf courses in Plettenberg Bay. Goose Valley Golf Club is only 5 minutes away in unspoilt surroundings, directly in front of Plettenberg Bay, adjacent to the wonderful Keurbooms Lagoon, easily accessed via the N2. This beautiful golf complex offers a wonderful 18-hole, par 72 golf course designed by Gary Player in the heart of the Garden Route. Golfers will enjoy the spectacular view on Keurbooms Lagoon, the Indian Ocean, the stunning Tsitsikamma Mountains and the famous Robberg Peninsula. The beauty of the natural fynbos, a wealth of animals and birds, offer a special golfing experience. A warm and friendly welcome by the helpful team of employees and instructors awaits you. Directions from George Airport
From the airport take the N2 highway along the Garden Route heading east - towards Port Elizabeth.
Continue on the N2, travelling through the towns of Wilderness and Knysna.
Take the Plettenberg Bay exit at the Shell Ultra City Service station - take the 3rd exit onto Marine Way.
Turn left at the first traffic circle at Challenge Drive.
Turn right at Bowtie Drive for only 50 meters
Take the 1st left again onto Rosheen Crescent Street.
The beautiful LA VISTA Villa will be on your right hand side, number 17.

Directions from Port Elizabeth Airport
From the airport take the N2 highway heading west towards Cape Town.
Stay on the N2 for about 235kms, driving through Humansdorp and Stormsrivier.
On reaching Plettenberg Bay stay on the N2 driving up the hill until you reach the Shell Ultra City
Take the Plettenberg Bay exit and turn left into Marine Way.
Turn left on Marine Way at the first traffic circle into Challenge Drive.
Continue on Challenge Drive until Bowtie Drive. Turn right into Bowtie Drive for only 50 meters
Turn left again into Rosheen Crescent Street.
The beautiful LA VISTA Villa will be on your right hand side, number 17.
