Description

The stone cottage is newly converted into 2 apartments & is ideal for a large group where an element of privacy is still required. Each has 3 double/twin bedrooms & 2 shower rooms each, & open plan living/dining/kitchens with washing machine, dishwasher, oven, hob, microwave, CD player, DVD player, sofa, chairs, including sofa bed. Each property has a private entrance & eating out area, with BBQ & Laura has a large private loggia. The pool is 12M x 5M with internal steps. It is difficult to tear oneself away from the views & relaxation, but there are hundreds of hill top villages to explore & there are many towns within easy reach. A perfect choice for a relaxing family break, & ideal for larger groups/2 families requiring an element of privacy but with facilities to eat & relax together if you wish. For evenings at home we can arrange a chef.

Outside there is a BBQ and a private eating courtyard. Shared use of pool 12M x 5m

The property is situated circa 1 hr north of Lucca high in the hills of Garfagnana Northern Tuscany. The rural location/views/walking opportunities are the real attraction of this property but there are plenty of restaurants and bars in the market town of Castelnuovo - 12 min drive and also in medieval Barga (20 min drive but new road promised for next yr cutting drive to 10 mins). There is a small bar/shop for basic necessities in two of the closest villages (5 mins in car), and there is a restaurant just over a 5 min drive too. We can arrange a personal chef for those evenings when one doesn't wish to drive . Full privacy respected Other services: We have access to a local chef, who can come and make you home made pizzas in the outdoor oven and other traditional local dishes cooked in the wood oven too. He will also prepare home made pasta dishes and so forth but will need temporary access to your kitchen to do so. A really fun evening, with no need to drive! Directions

Location: The site is beautifully located in the hills, with the closest villages 1km and 1.5km respectively. A 5 minute drive will take you to a bar/shop/pharmacy/post office etc. Claudio at our closest restaurant will open just for you and provide a tailor made meal! For a good choice of restaurants, Castelnuovo with its many shops, bars, restaurants, and famous Thursday morning market is a 12 minute drive, and the medieval market town of Barga is 20 mins or so away, again with a good choice of restaurants and bars.

A little slice of paradise
This is a magical place; it's worth the long and winding drive just to see the view of the valley and the Apuan Alps that you get to call your own for a week or two. This year (2010) was our third visit in five years and once again we found it very hard to tear ourselves away at the end. The house is clean, well-equipped, comfortable and spacious, the vine-draped terraces alive with bees, birds and butterflies, the pool a perfect spot for rest and play. The outside eating area became our gathering place for breakfast, lunch and dinner but there are plenty of quiet corners where you can hide out with a book and a glass of wine. For two weeks we gorged on food and wine (including a splendid pizza evening: recommended), strolled to the local villages and drove through the hillsides in search of both history and adventure. Above all, it was our charming, warm and helpful hosts, Lorraine and Fabrizio, who made our stay so special. We almost want to keep this place to ourselves, it's so good. Thank you for a fabulous family holiday.

Review of Laura, Lower Apartment, Garfagnana
First and foremost the apartment is everything and more than the description claims it to be.

Its a very tasteful combination of traditional/rural on the outside and modern, very clean and comfortable on the inside. Its equipt with all the facilities for easy living and a fair sized, well kept pool to relax or throw your kids around in.

This was the first time we rented an apartment because we have always been apprehensive of noise, but we found what little noise there was didnt bother us at all.

We felt fully relaxed with our 2.5 and 5 year old boys pottering around the terrassed grassed areas. The pool is fenced off and secured with a gate which our rather ingenious 5 year old had trouble with (this may not be intensional but usefull).

Lorraine and Fabrizio also organised toys for our boys which they seriously appreciated. From day one Fabrizio put us at ease with 'there are no real rules, and not to be scared to ask for anything' which was a automatic stress relief in itself when your on holidays with hyper curious kids.

The house book we found very usefull. Tips on suggested days out, how to get there and the good eating is obviously from experience gained and well worth using.

Overall the holiday was excellent and I would certainly recommend it to friends and colleagues.

Perfect name Tuscan retreat!
Beautiful! Home from home. Very clean and spacious. Beautiful area and amazing views. Owners live locally and are very helpful and welcoming! Would definely recommend to others!
Only down side Is you have to drive every where restaurants etc are 20mins at least away. Bit too far to walk.
But otherwise everything else was lovely

Simply perfect
The winding roads that lead to this hilltop retreat are not for the faint hearted, but once you arrive, you'll never want to leave. The accomodation is excellent with spacious entertainment areas, good sized rooms and very clean. The property has plentiful land flourishing with grapes and fruit trees. The pool area which is elevated from the property has stunning views over the surrounding areas, it has comfortable loungers for lazing, and a good sized pool which was cleaned regularly.
Adventuring back down the hill you are only a short drive from several places of interest, small towns and the supermarket.
The owners are fantastic, vey helpful and accomodating people with good knowledge of the area.
Having been and returned several times we have no hesitation at all in recommending a holiday here!

Excellent place to stay
The apartment was beautiful and the setting and scenery took your breath away (as long as the rain clouds didn't block it!).
There were 5 of us including 2 small children and my Mum and there was plenty of room for all.
We didn't get good weather in October but everything else was great. The standard of accommodation was excellent, the hosts were extremely helpful, there if you needed them (with extra toys in our case for rainy days) but not invading your holiday. Didn't get to use the pool owing to the change in weather as we arrived.
You would definately need a car as it took at least 10 -15 mins drive from the main road. The road was a little hairy at times but not a problem. Tight turn into the drive until you got used to it.
Lots to see locally.
Would definitely recommend to friends and family and hope to return at some point in the future.
