This is an ideal family holiday retreat; warm and welcoming, with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. This unusual three storey 13th century house lies in the heart of a beautiful medieval village. It has been renovated by its owner, who brought it back to life in absolute sympathy with its setting, revealing gems like hidden vaulted stone ceilings, and a 12th century stone column in the kitchen.
The walls of the lower two floors are all rendered with traditional lime in delicious ochre tones that create a warmth throughout. Both the kitchen and sitting room have underfloor heating so you won't be needing your slippers! The vast kitchen with beams and flagstones, lends itself to those gourmets who would like to spend time cooking up a feast. The house is extremely comfortable and cosy, whilst on the terrace and in the garden you'll have a wonderful feeling of space and beauty - the perfect combination for a relaxing holiday.

la maison du pigeonnier
The Pigeonnier is an unusual property and made for a wonderful few days vacation. The property is on 3 levels and the lower level kitchen / dining area has medevial origins. Nice terrace for eating out with shade for the summer heat. The main bedroom on the top floor is very comfortable with lovely cotton sheets. The sitting area in between is comfortable, and has good wifi. There is a fair amount of going up and down stairs which might make it unsuitable for some but we enjoyed this aspect. The view across the rolling fields with Charolais cows is stunning. The whole area is very rural and excellent for seeing by bike as there is no traffic and the villages and countryside around are very attractive. The biking requires some effort as there are a few hills but this provides a great justification for eating at either of the great restaurants in Mont St Jean! The Medieval is run by a lady - her husband cooks - the food is excellent. Les Roches is a splendid mini chateau hotel run by Marcus and Tobias - also simple but excellent cooking. There is an interesting castle which is not normally open to the public. We parked our car and didn't use it for 4 days as the Pigeonnier and the village gave us what we wanted for a relaxing minibreak.
an amazingly beautiful place
Hello Roger and Naomi,
Thank you so much for our wonderfully comfortable stay at your beautiful home. You were so kind to accommodate our family at such short notice. The home is exactly as it presents in the photos, if not more lovely! Our children aged from 5 - 10 loved the country side and the overall charm of the surroundings.
We are only sad that our stay was so short, and are already thinking about when we will return! Thank you for your help with a lost item and hope to be in contact in the future.
Kind Regards
The Bolands
Naomi Bishop
