Description

Set around a courtyard at the edge of the village of Ivry-en-Montagne, the gite overlooks the Chateau de Coraboeuf, in a landscape of wooded hills and pastures. Eagles and buzzards soar overhead by day and nightingales sing at night.

The quiet village of Ivry-en-Montagne where the property is located, welcomes visitors and is a calm setting for a holiday within easy reach of a wide range of attractions and activities. Village amenities include a Daily bread van, weekly grocery van, church, tennis and sports ground with the wine store and Mairie. It is also close to the Beaune and its treasures and with a wealth of exquisite food and wine to taste and enjoy protraying France at its very best.

Guests can also explore forests, historic towns and castles, take leisurely countryside and canal walks, make exciting cycle rides, and refresh one's self by tasting some of the best wines and delicious foods in the world. These can be found at friendly local cafes and restaurants all encompassed by the dramatic landscapes of chateaux, ancient forests, historic towns and villages along the area.

Outside is a patio with patio table, chairs and drinks trolley, outdoor loungers and the essential BBQ. The court yard provides a good kick-about or badminton area and the gravel patio and driveway are ideal for boules. The area round about has plenty of activities for couples or families such as walking the country lanes and canals, cycling, tennis in the village, swimming, horse-riding, chateaux visits, canal trips, golf, fishing, water sports in the Morvan. There are also two bikes available (a lady's and a gent's) but you would need to bring childrens' bikes.

Whilst Burgundy is France's rural heartland, there are water sports lakes in the Morvan Regional Park 30 to 45 minutes drive away from the property for those who want to venture further. Locally there are open air swimming pools at Nolay - Chaumes du Mont campsite; Arnay-le-Duc, at the Etang Fouche and each of them is within 15 minutes drive. Further afield are the beautiful lakes and rivers in the Jura mountains less than two hours away.

A daily bread van toots at the top of the road with an addition of the weekly grocery van. The closest shops are at Nolay and Arnay-le-Duc where guests will find restaurants, banks, post offices, supermarkets, butchers, grocers, pharmacies, fuel stations and garages.

Autun is a market town with Roman gates and amphitheatre, medieval walls and a fine romanesque cathedral. There are also water sports available at the plan d'eau. Nolay, on the other hand is the nearest town just below the Cirque du Monde with its limestone cliffs, waterfall and dramatic valley, it has a mediaeval heart which area all usual town facilities and outdoor swimming lake.

Beaune is a walled town, small enough to explore on foot and is the wine centre of the Cote d'Or. Beaune has a fine selection of shops, restaurants and excellent Saturday market. Our restaurant favourites include: Auberge des Sources, Lusigny sur Ouche; La Bouzerotte, Bouze les Beaune; Les Roches, St Romain; Le Benaton, Beaune; Le Terroir, Santenay.

For Sports and Recreation, generally, there are countryside and forest walks along the grand randonnees, walking and cycling the canals and "voie vertes". The Morvan immediately west and north of Ivry is a designated regional park of forests and lakes, containing some lovely towns such as the Vezelay, Avallon and Saulieu, villages and chateaux. The area has much to offer in terms of countryside, leisure and sports activities which includes walking, cycling, canoeing, fishing, and horse riding.

Culturally and historically, Bibracte was an ancient Gaulish city on Mont Beuvray and has a fascinating visitor centre. There are also numerous Caves/Wine Houses with opportunities to taste and buy the famous appellations of the area such as the Mersault, Puligny and Chassagne Montrachet, Santenay, St Romain, Maranges, Rully and north of Beaune the great burgundy houses like Chorey les Beaune, Aloxe Corton, Corgoloin.

Springtime - Lovely home
Thanks for sharing your lovely home in Ivry with us. It could not have been nicer. The kitchen was perfectly equipped, and the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. We especially enjoyed sitting by the wood-burning stove and the beautiful fireplace and reading.Ivry is such a practical base to explore the lovely surrounding area - the charming town of Beaune, the vineyards and nearby chateaux. We hope to return soon and would recommend Les Vignes to anyone wanting to discover this beautiful and interesting part of Burgundy. Susi.

Lovely Gite
Now back home and trying to get back into some sort of routine after a great time in France. Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed our week in Les Vignes what a lovely gite, so well appointed. Phil&Chris

Lovely Cycling
We had a lovely holiday in Ivry in September and cycled everywhere. There is a well marked cycle route commencing in Pommard that interweaves throughout the Cote D'or which we would recommend to everyone. Also the green route along the canal from Chagny to Chalon.
