Cogolin is on the slopes of the Massif Des Maures range and has been described as ‘cascading down the hill’. It’s full of picturesque, narrow streets and historical interest, with an 11th Century church, clock tower and ancient fortifications amongst its charms. The Wednesday and Saturday markets fill the air with the scent of Provençal herbs and spices. Cogoiln is also a real working town, alive all year round, and is known for its traditional craftsmanship, producing reeds for woodwind instruments, smoking pipes and wrought-iron furniture. The town has all the usual amenities, such as supermarket, banks, shops and restaurants. Around Cogolin there are some glorious walks in the Massif as well as numerous other perched hilltop villages. Inland is the spectacular Gorges du Verdon – the world’s second largest river canyon and considered to be Europe’s most beautiful.
