"La Petite Grange" has one twin bedroom with bathroom en-suite. It has an open plan lounge/diner and a well equipped kitchen. The kitchen has a gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment and dishwasher.
The gite has a terrace with garden furniture, BBQ & access to the 10 x 5 meter swimming pool and large wooded garden. The lounge area has exposed beams, wood burner, English satellite TV/DVD as well as French, a single day-bed and a double sofa-bed. A cot is also available if required. The gite can be rented by 2/4 persons and is ideal for small families or couples. If you are looking to buy your own holiday home in France, take advantage of Ians' Architectural knowledge and our own experiences over a glass of wine. Whatever your reasons to visit, you will be made very welcome here at Le Grand Bois !!
'LE GRAND BOIS' was originally constructed around the 1850's as a small farm with outbuildings around a courtyard, with a well providing the water supply, a stone oven in which to bake the bread and stables for the farm animals. This has now been tastefully converted into our home, a large gite which can accommodate up to 12 persons and a small gite for 2/4 persons. The bread oven and the well remain but we have built a 10 x 5 meter swimming pool in the garden for the use of our clients. The large garden has fruit trees and nut trees and our own row of vines producing two varieties of eating grapes. We are surrounded by vineyards and fields of sunflowers, maize and wheat. At Le Grand Bois - Gites you can enjoy a peaceful, stress-free holiday beside the swimming pool or you can use the superb facilities as a base to explore the many attractions and places of interest offered by the south-west region of France! Househunting in France? We may also be able to help. Contact for details.
'Le Grand Bois - Gites' is situated in the delightful rolling French countryside, on the outskirts of a small hamlet, surrounded by sunflower fields and vineyards, between Cognac and Bordeaux. Barbezieux and Blanzac are our nearest towns, both approx. 7 kms. away and each having supermarkets, banks, chemists, bars and restaurants. Royan, with its sandy beaches is around an hour's drive. Nearby are lakeside beaches, picnic areas, an indoor leisure complex with pools and ice-skating rink and lakes with daily fishing licences. Enjoy local produce at home, in the gite, or in one of the many excellent but inexpensive restaurants. Try the confit of duck, fois gras, Charente melons, goat’s cheese and seasonal nuts and fruits. There are frequent street markets to browse around and in the summer months there are many traditional fetes and brocantes (flea markets) to enjoy. The Charente is the sunniest region in France next to the Cote d'Azur with lots of long hot days and wonderful sunsets.
All linen, hand and kitchen towels are included in the rental, as are the use of cot and baby equipment as long as this is agreed with the owner at the time of booking. A complimentary starter pack of basic provisions including tea, coffee, bread, milk, fresh fruit and more is also provided on your arrival. An evening meal can also be prepared and awaiting your return from a long day out. 48 hours notice is required and meals will be charged per head and according to menu. Pets will be considered, if a request is made at the time of booking.

*Hot-air ballooning *Aqua-jet skiing *Quad biking *Ten-pin bowling Thing to do and places to visit: For active families, there are lots of ways to spend the day. Take a riverboat trip along the Charente, visit the chocolate factory, the paper mill, prehistoric grottos or the comic museum in Angouleme. Palmyre has one of the best zoos in Europe. Futuroscope at Poitiers is certainly worth the drive and there are several indoor and outdoor water parks which are great fun for both adults and children. The Dordogne is a short drive away with its beautiful towns of Aubeterre, Perigeux and Brantome or go north west to La Rochelle with its old port and yachting marina where eating out or shopping is an absolute pleasure. The Charente also has an endless variety of sporting activities on offer; golf, hot-air ballooning, cycling, horse riding, quad biking, aqua-jet skiing, angling, canoeing, karting, ten-pin bowling or just country walking. There are of course some wonderful old churches and Renaissance or classical castles and country houses to enjoy. There is something for everyone! 'The Vignoble Trail': The south-west region is renowned for its many cognac and wine producers, such as Remy Martin, Hennessy, Courvoisier, St.Emillion, Bergerac and Blaye. All welcome visitors and offer tours and tastings. Follow the 'Vignoble Trail around some of these world famous producers tasting the odd glass or two as you go! Golf: If golf is your game, there are excellent courses at Cognac and Angouleme, both only around half an hour away and others at Royan and down into the Dordoge.

Thank you Linda and Ian for allowing us to spend a great week in La Petite Grange with our mutt Bailey! Apologies to the cat! A beautifully furnished and peacefully situated Gite with all mod cons - even a dishwasher! Fantastic company and very helpful hosts. Superb and safe garden for children, lovely pool. Testimony to all the hard work put in by yourselves. Would certainly recommend it to everyone. Thanks once again and hope to return! Best Wishes Jim Jackie and Bailey (woof!)

We spent a week in La Petite Grange in mid June this year. It is without doubt one of the nicest gites we have ever stayed in over quite a few visits to France. The gite was clean, well appointed and spacious and the setting amongst rolling fields of sunflower and vines is beautiful. A car is essential as the property is blissfully rural and makes a fantastic base for touring Charente and the Dordoyne. Stick a pin in the map, drive for an hour in any direction and find yourselves somewhere wonderful. Ian and Linda were the perfect hosts and a mine of local information and we enjoyed their company on several evenings - we will be back !

What can I say ....a lovely property in a beautiful rural location with all amenities to hand. Beautufully restored and very well equipped the gite was perfect for the two of us. The pool is gorgeous, very well looked after and is shared with the adjoining gite. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the local markets well worth a visit. The owners were fantastic and were able to give advice, directions to places and were on hand to help us out during a memorable holiday going beyond the remit of gite owner !! I would certainly recommend the hospitality shown to us by both Linda and Ian.

An absolutely beautifully restored gite. The photos don't portray it's full beauty! A welcome pack of more than enough essentials and a very hospitable, helpful couple to meet you. We arrived with a few hire car problems, Ian and Linda soon ironed them out. They certainly went out of their way to help us with their knowledge, generosity and kindness. We highly recommend anyone looking for a very clean, comfortable and relaxing holiday with or without children, it's great!! You need a car as it's in a country area. However, it's nearby many towns, an excellent base for touring the South and Western areas of France. The swimming pool is enclosed, safely keeping the children amused for hours. We will be returning to this gite again as soon as we can the tranquillity and sunshine was just what we needed!
