The main house has 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms (2 en-suite) along with a very large open plan kitchen/diner; living area; dining area; (all with direct access to the grounds) and second living area/quiet room. The remaining 2 bedrooms and one bathroom are situated underneath the main house giving some privacy from the rest of the group and making this house an ideal choice for two families. This area of the property boasts a further living/kitchen diner, and direct access to the gardens.
The villa/barn is situated in the heart of the Garfagnana, with stunning 360 views of the Appenines, Apuane Alps and the famous 'Uomo Morto'. Whilst ideal for a peaceful, rural away from it all holiday, this property offers the convenience of town too, with the famous market town of Castelnuovo less than a 5 minute drive away. Indeed the beautiful fortress, with commanding views over the valley and the mountains beyond, and noted for its classical music events, is 10 minutes on foot & here one will find a good quality restaurant serving excellent local food.. The town itself has a famous weekly market, bars, restaurants, shops, and train station for easy exploring. Drive times are: Castelnuovo 3 mins or so, Mediaeval town of Barga - 15 minutes, Lucca - 45 minutes, Pisa - 1 hour 15 minutes, Florence - 90 minutes, National Park of Orrechiella - 30 mins Walking, horseriding, and picnic opportunities straight from the door!

Lovely villa, lovely place.
A very beautifully renovated villa and outdoor area. Fantastic for a large family group and friends. Castelnuova is a great town and the Fortezza provided some of the best food we've had in Italy. Plenty to do in the vicinity even better for lounging round relaxing in the beautiful mountains.

Beautiful house set in stunning surroundings
9 of us stayed in July 09 for 2 weeks. The house is really well equiped and is of a very high standard. Plenty of space for everyone to eat and have their own space. The pool and the gardens were fab with plenty of space around the pool for the sun beds. Alan and Mel were great hosts pointing us in the right direction whenever we managed to get away from the house. Shops are handy but a car is needed and there are a few good restaurants in the town. Great place, sad to leave and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Beautiful Orbaci
We had a wonderful two week holiday in this beautiful villa - everything is just how the photos present it. Beautifully clean and well maintained. Our hosts - Alan and Mel were great and could not do enough to make our stay the best possible. We all thoroughly enjoyed Castelnuovo and especially the Thursday market. The train service is very good - make sure you check the times though, they can differ from the posted timetables. Using the trains we visited Lucca, Pisa, Florence and Aulla - a lovely town further up the line.
Driving we visited many of the surrounding villages including the lovely town of Barga also Viareggio on the coast and a day trip to the Chianti area and the towns of Castelina in Chianti and San Gimignano.
I would thoroughly recommend this villa to everyone and would like to think we could go back one day. Enjoy, enjoy.
