We are only a short distance from the Pembrokeshire coast - Laugharne 10 minutes away. Tenby and Saundersfoot approx 25 minutes by car. Narberth and Carmarthen shops all very close. There is so much to do in this area and many of our visitors end the day with a BBQ on the big south facing stone patio. The small stream nearby will help to amuse children and we leave buckets and spades and nets for them to borrow. Old Oak Barn is very child friendly and a lot of thought has gone into ensuring that children's needs are always considered. We offer very easy booking terms and conditions and will get back to any email very quickly. Please phone or email any time. Our availability calendar on our website is always kept fully up to date and we take short break bookings out of the main season. Please email for our detailed info sheet.

Heaven is in Wales !
Our party consisted of Grandma, me, daughter, and grandson. I despaired of finding just the right self catering place where three generations could all be comfortable and not get on each other's nerves after a long day together.
I was looking in the Laugharne/St Clears area, as we planned to visit family and friends there. Happened on the Old Oak Barn's excellent web site, and was quite taken with it right away.
The Fates were kind indeed ! While I thought the Barn looked ideal, I had a friend who actually went to check it out for me and was shown around by the Barn's charming hostess, Charlotte Roberson. He assured me it was indeed lovely.
Charlotte was also quick to answer all my email questions very pleasantly and patiently. By the time we arrived for our stay, I felt we had a friend already waiting to greet us.
The Old Oak Barn is even more spacious and light filled than the pictures show.
The kitchen is stocked well enough to cook a gourmet meal if you want to bother. We did fine with the toster and the microwave and cooked up somepasta one night.
Hard to explain how delightful it is to open the top of the Dutch door, see all the green and the wild flowers everywhere, and hear nothing but heavenly birdsong while you are having breakfast.
The large bathroom with it's just right for a bubble bath tub, divine " power " shower, and, best of all, HEATED floor, was wonderful !
Bedrooms were roomy and very comfortable with plenty of closet space, hangers, comfortable beds, and very important to this guest, an excellent reading light on the nightstand. Also a small flashlight was provided, a thoughtful touch.
You wake in the morning to the most glorious birdsong you could possibly imagine. It was actually difficult for us to leave every day, and was a warm, welcoming place to come home to. I say home, because that is how it felt.
The hosts, Charlotte and Jerry, are teriffic. Pleasant, patient, helpful in all ways, and great with kids !
Imagine our nine year old's excitement at riding an "awesome" swing, and then being escorted into the woods in the evening on a badger hunt. Yes, he did see one. I believe the Robersons have the local badgers under contract. In any case, William was thrilled !
There is a nice play area for younger children too.
I would stay again in a heartbeat, and in fact would never want to stay anywhere else in this area. I can't recommend The Old Oak Barn strongly enough. Would give it 10 circles if I could !
Wonderful place! Highly recommended!
This was our second visit to Old Oak Barn and it was as good as the first!
The first visit was in 2006 for a week away to relax. This visit was a birthday weekend getaway from the city.
I'm quite fussy where I stay and I give the Old Oak Barn a definite thumbs up!
The barn has been converted so it has it's original character and beams, but with mod cons: underfloor heating, power shower, wi fi etc. Set in acres of woodland, it's beautifully secluded and quiet, but only a 10min drive to St Clears where there is a Co-op, Spa, chip shop, chinese etc.
Perfect for exploring West Wales and the Pembrokeshire coastline then coming 'home' to a cosy (but spacious!) barn. Perfect for couples (like us) and families with children.
The owners are lovely and happy to help. We were given fresh eggs which were delicious, thank you!
Try 'The Castle' pub in Little Haven for a delicious meal and pint/glassof wine overlooking the bay - just perfect!
Beautiful
Just returned from a wonderful stay at this charming barn conversion.
The barn is located in a valley next door to the owner's farmhouse. Both Charlotte and Jerry are welcoming and friendly. The design of the barn allowed you to easily feel as if you had the whole valley to yourself.
Our 20 month old son loved the space, inside and out. It felt as if the place was meant for him, as there were toys thoughfully left for him to play with. He had great fun playing on the swings in the garden, in the nearby stream and on the patio. He also loved feeding the chickens and looking at the tractors.
Overall a wonderful retreat holiday particularly for those with young children. Somewhere we look forward to returning to again very soon.
Very relaxing stay
Old Oak Barn is very well located about 10 mins away from St Clears where there is a Spar, a Co-op, a fish and chip shop, an Indian restaurant and a Chinese takeaway. There is also a bakery near Spar and about Butchers.
St Clears is just off the A40 and about 15 mins away down an easy road from Carmarthen. Carmarthen has a large Tescos and a Morrisons which we found very convenient. Tescos has a large car park.
If you want to go to Carmarthen town there is a Park and Ride just outside Carmarthen which is free. The car park is next to the County Showground . The bus goes every 15 minutes.
Old Oak Barn feels very rural. It is located adjacent to some lovely bluebell woods which you are free to walk in. In the woods there is a log cabin, with a camp fire and swings. I would have loved this when I was a child and loved it now when I am 49! The swing was great!!
The accommodation is lovely. A 2 bedroomed one storey barn conversion. The facilities were good. Nice shower but the bath was a bit slippy. Nice handwash and soap. Take your own towels.
Good kitchen with microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. Nice to sit there in the evening at the kitchen table.
Lovely large living room with DVD's supplied. Had swallows flying through the living room when we kept the living room doors open plus a long tailed tit chick which seemed to be on its maiden flight. Lots of birds in the vicinity. Very loud sheep in the neighbouring fields.
Childrens bedroom was great although we have no children to experience it. Lots of toys and books.
Charlotte supplied fresh eggs during the week which were delicious.
Interesting places to visit nearby. Aberglasney Gardens especially recommended - beautiful.
A very relaxing stay! Would love to see it in Winter.
When can we return?!
Just returned from a very relaxing stay at Old Oak Barn and to say that with a 2 year old and 8 week old is quite something. The barn itself is in a perfect location - secluded and quiet but not too far from shops and other amenities. Charlotte and Jerry are wonderful hosts - checking that all is okay without being intrusive - and have made the barn a home from home. There are plenty of toys for toddlers, and games and puzzles for older children and adults, together with a mix of DVDs for all ages. There are even a few bath toys and a jug for washing toddlers hair! We cannot think of any criticisms of the property and plan to return as soon as possible.
Lovely clean, well equipped, sweet farm dwelling,
Lovely place, it was really lovely and clean, which is always a relief, the kids loved it there. Baby chicks were born that day on the farm, which Charlotte and Gerry let us see and pet. They were so sweet. We got to say hello to the chickens, see the tractors, the sheep and the family cat.
Its so well equipped, we have a 1 year old and 2 year old, and they provided lots of stuff for us, so we didn't need to haul an extra travel cot, and many other large essentials with us, including toys, they had lots of lovely toys and books there for the kids.
Charlotte and Gerry were extremely helpful, and by doing little extra things, made our stay here special.
Thanks so much guys, we had a lovely stay, and will probably be back for a proper holiday soon!!
Perfect...
You know you're somewhere special when it's even a pleasure to hang out the washing! Beautiful setting; secluded...but near enough to ammenities so that you can relax with small children / medical conditions. The kind of stuff children's holidays should be made of, but that you're hugely pleased you're there when they toddle off, exhausted, to bed.
Washing machine & dishwasher = fab! Very well equiped kitchen and brilliant BBQ. Constant hot water, swings, a wood cabin, a stream with an amazing bridge, washing line, airer, buckets and spades, nets, boogie boards, toys and books to suit the age of your child, DVDs, radio, CD, i-pod dock, freeview, books....patio with the most comfortable seats in the world (yes, I'm taking on that challenge ;o) Spacious, but homely. Clean. Lots of welcoming touches....bedding with an amazing smell, fresh flowers, eggs and runner beans in our case. Gorgeous hosts, who make you feel welcome and relaxed and who are invaluable in pointing you in the direction of all the local treasures.
Central....you can easily travel to Pembrokeshire / West Wales' gems, but be 'home' for a chilled evening within the hour
The Co-op (seconds down the road) is excellent for really fresh produce....lol at my Co-op plug (!)
Ooh! The postman! ....collects from a little box outside the barn each day....much excitement if you're eight ;o) ! (or 38, for that matter...)
This is the kind of place that you love, but are somewhat reluctant to recommend, as you don't want anyone else to discover it and nab your spot (....as the visitors book will demonstrate). Much love obviously went into the buildng of and continues to go into 'The Barn'......you can't help but fall in love yourself.
...... I absolutely ADORED the bath and, as my husband said we couldn't fit it into the car, we've booked to go back.
Bliss !
A beautiful property in a lovely peaceful setting, very clean, well equiped, really comfortable bed, an excellent quality barn conversion . Only 5 / 10 minutes drive from the A40 and St Clears with its takeaways and a well stocked co-op, though you would think you are miles from anywhere ! No traffic noise at all. Very friendly, helpful owner. Great base for exploring this beautiful part of Wales, with lots of things to see and do in the area, and the beaches are also in easy reach. Although it was nice to just sit and relax on the patio listening to the birds and do nothing at all !
The perfect place for children to get out in the fresh air and have freedom without having to worry about them. There`s a great den in the woods and a little stream to paddle in, and such a gorgeous well equiped bedroom.
We have been enjoying cottage/barn holidays for a few years now and are quite fussy about where we stay, and this did not dissapoint at all. It is definately a place we would like to return to at any time of the year, and would recommend without hesitation.
If you are wanting a relaxing get away from it all break, or a base to explore the area, then this is the place for you ! Though sssshhhhhhhh.......don`t tell everyone !!!
Fantastic! And thanks for being so baby friendly!
Thanks for a fantastic time at Old Oak Barn - Charlie enjoyed the play gym, meeting the chickens and the sheep plus the swings. Thanks for making everything so baby friendly as this makes doing small jobs easy without having to worry about Charlie. We loved the fresh eggs from the chickens "Thank you girls" We would love to come back again. March 2010.
Fantastic break - our second long awaited visit!
This was our second long awaited stay at Old Oak BArn near St Clears. It was just as perfect as we remembered and this time we had the pleasure of meeting Charlotte and Jerry (as last time they were on holiday themselves). They were lovely hosts and even installed their own personal TV in the barn when this one broke! The kids enjoyed all the toys and books - Olivia 10 says "We went to St Clears Craft Centre and George made a plate and I made a fairy. We also went to Dinosaur Land and I spent almost half an hour in a ginat plastic ball on water. Our stay was so much fun we asked for another day and as it was empty we stayed on a bit longer! See you again soon"
WOW! We love it here!
What a great find - just wished it was for longer but we will definitely be returning soon - the boys lved paddling in the stream and were overjoyed with so much space to run around in. Very very child friendly - a huge plus for us! The toys and books were very much appreciated, fab underfloor heating and such lovely accommodation. All round Old Oak Barn far exceeded our expectations. BIG thank you!
