Coast & Beaches: Clovelly is on Cape Town's False Bay coastline where the warm 'Indian Ocean' laps onto soft white sandy beaches. Our local beaches are some of the most popular for swimming and surfing. Clovelly beach is just 500m from Clovelly Lodge Guest Apartments, and numerous other sandy beaches can be accessed easily by car or train. Fish Hoek beach has good amenities and is just the other side of the bay. Several surf-schools in Muizenberg compete for novices and the Pisces diving centre is just 5km away in Glencairn. Boat trips can be taken from Simon's Town out to Seal Island, including shark-diving tours. In season whale-watching trips go from Kalk Bay as well as Simon's Town. Special Interest Holidays: Sport is a huge attraction in Cape Town with the city hosting top tournaments in rugby, cricket, golf, cycling, surfing and soccer including of course the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The mountains provide endless caving, rock-climbing, mountain-biking and hiking opportunities, the local coast draws sailors, surfers and kayakers as well as seasonal whale-watchers and shark-divers (trips are offered from Simon’s Town). The Cape Town coast is also fantastic for wreck diving, and the warm waters of False Bay’s Indian Ocean are home to extensive kelp beds providing a safe-haven for a vast array of fish. Cape Town is noted for its exceptional cuisine and is home to numerous international award-winning restaurants and chefs, making the city something of a foodie heaven. Bird-watching tours on offer include going out with the pelagic fishermen to observe albatross. The region’s magical fynbos led to its being declared a ‘Floral Kingdom’ in recognition of a huge number of endemic species found here. Golf: Clovelly country club is accorded 'gold' status by the SA Golf Directory and is literally on your doorstep. Clovelly has an extended practise putting area as well as its championship 18-hole course. Two other gold-rated courses - Steenberg and Westlake - are a short 10m drive. Clovelly is one of Cape Town's most popular courses, with fairways flanked by mountains on either side. The course is bordered by the Silvermine Nature Reserve, the Clovelly mountain, the Silvermine river and the sought-after wind-protected suburb of Clovelly. Open to non-members, the course offers discounts for Western Cape affiliated members. Clubs, pull-trolleys and carts are available for rental. Rates are subject to seasonal variation. For less experienced players, the Simon's Town 9-hole golf-course offers a spectacularly scenic alternative right on the ocean (10km from Clovelly). Other Activities: Shark diving, scuba diving, caving, rock-climbing, whale-watching, rock-climbing and hiking, sight-seeing, museums, galleries and restaurants, Africa's best shopping, wine estates offering tasting and cellar tours... you name it - Cape Town and its Peninsula have it all.
