Bring your binoculars and you may be lucky to spot whales and dolphins. Mini-markets, a pizzeria, cafes, a health centre and a pharmacy are only steps away. Across the road is a friendly snack bar with a range of drinks, ice creams and snacks at modest prices and free internet access for its customers. Within minutes driving there are two beaches, one sandy, a marina, numerous fine restaurants and supermarkets. This sunny corner of Madeira is a fine all-year holiday destination.

Sunny South Western Madeira's first ever sandy beach is at Calheta and a new marina there has waterside bars and restaurants for a romantic sunset supper. Madeira's famous levada system offers a tranquil walking experience through breathtaking scenery and the nearest levada walk is only minutes from Vista Atlantico. Backed by soaring mountains and overlooking the azure Atlantic the Calheta area gives a taste of the real Madeira with its friendly people, superb fish restaurants, amazing scenery and cascades of flowers at all times of the year. Funchal is only 30 minutes away. Arco da Calheta is surrounded by an amphitheatre or arc of mountains with paragliders soaring on the air currents.
