Hydeway is situated in the self contained village of Kilkhampton, 4 miles from Bude, close to the rugged Atlantic coastline with its hidden coves and dramatic cliffs. Kilkhampton is a conservation village with an interesting history and often features in the best kept village awards, there has been a village here for hundreds of years and the original strip field system can be seen along with tiny cottages hidden up narrow alleys.
The village is totally self-contained with post office, butcher, food shops, two pubs which both serve excellent food. There is also a pizza takeaway and one of the best fish and chip shops in the area all within a stones throw. The cottage itself was part of the village poorhouse until the 1920's and dates back to the 17th Century.
It is quietly situated off the main square through an arch into a cobbled courtyard and has 3 bedrooms sleeping up to 4 adults and a child. Downstairs there is a large morden living room comfortably furnished with squashy leather sofas, The farmhouse kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, microwave fridgefreezer, electric oven and ceramic hob and large table, the utility has washing machine with a newly refurbished bathroom with bath and shower.
Upstairs there is another brand new bathroom with a double ended bath the master bedroom has a 4 poster bed, there is a twin bedded room and a further child's bedroom, there are exposed beams, inglenook fireplace and cosy furnishings . Outside the garden is formed from one of the original strip fields a few yards away down a path, this was originally used by the farmer taking his cows from the fields to the square on the way to market.
Hydeaway is open all year round with full central heating and a log effect fire ensuring it is always cosy, our guests often remark that it is well named, a true hide away!
Widemouth 4 miles along the coast from Bude are 2 miles of sand against a backdrop of dunes and cliffs, plenty of rock pools to explore and lots of car parking. There are lifeguards in season, surfing tuition and surfwear hire, ideal for everyone from surfing to sandcastles and voted one of the best rockpooling beaches by a national newspaper. There are places to eat and drink, toilets and showers and walks along the coastpath to local pubs and restaurants with a great shop selling local fish as well as pasties and papers. It is a 5 minute drive from Helscott barns or a walk across the fields taking about 35 45 minutes.Duckpool 3 miles north of Bude, a locals beach with loos and a car park.
A fantastic location down a small road by a stream to the cove framed by dramatic cliffs with rocks, small pebbles and sand, great any time of year,we have had bbques in February here and champagne on the beach on Christmas morning,a family favourite.Sandymouth 2 miles north of Bude,a NT car park, lots of sand and very popular with locals and visitors, loos and a beach cafe.
