The gite is bright and airy - cool in the hot summers and, with radiators in all rooms, beautifully warm in the winters, especially as it has been very well insulated with top of the range materials.
The gite is entered through a glass door to a small hallway leading to an open-plan living room. The kitchen has polished concrete surfaces and good storage space. There is a brand new oven and washing machine and fridge-freezer. The kitchen window looks out onto the gite’s own garden.
At one end of the living room there are dividing curtains, so it is possible to make a second (private) sleeping area with the use of a very comfortable double sofa bed. The hallway also leads to the double bedroom which has an en suite shower room with loo, hand basin, large, very powerful walk-in (Italian) shower (two heads). The shower room can also be accessed from the hallway and used by any third party either visiting or staying.
The climate is wonderful in this area (temperatures can reach 30+ in the summer with little humidity).
November is a particularly special time for viewing both the dramatic and romantic scenery with its awe-inspiring colours. And there’s skiing in the winter.
Le Gite des Vergers is situated at the base of Le Mont Ventoux (the first or last of the Alps depending on which direction you are heading!). Set in one of the most beautiful areas of Vaucluse, it is about ten minutes walk from the popular town of Bédoin. Here there are some fifteen restaurants open during the summer and about five during the winter. There are two supermarkets - Petit Casino and Shopi, which has just about everything in the way of food including an exceptionally good fresh meat counter. (If you want poppadums you would need to go to Carpentras which is fifteen minutes drive away!) Bédoin has many other shops – organic butcher – gift shops – cave for Côtes du Rhône wines – a tabac which sells same-day British newspapers (and, naturally, The Herald Tribune) from early in the morning. There is also an excellent pharmacy.
Monday mornings sees one of the best markets in Vaucluse – it is a must! The larger town of Carpentras has a multitude of shops and restaurants and a multiscreen cinema that shows British and American films in English. Other places of interest to visit within easy striking distance are; Orange and its enormous amphitheatre where grandly staged opera is performed during the summer; the Palais des Papes and Avignon’s wonderful market and of course the Festival in July; L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, which is internationally renowned for its antique shops – and the world famous wine growing regions of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas and Beaumes-de-Venise.
The breathtaking vistas surrounding Mont Ventoux make this an ideal place for walking, serious cycling up Mont Ventoux (less serious going down!), horseback riding, riverside activities (such as kayaking), rock climbing, shopping, sightseeing, theme parks, wine tasting, painting with the help of the light understandably so loved by the impressionist. Or just stay and enjoy yourself by our large swimming pool.
