The Andalucian village of Bedar, established by the Moors, is tucked away high in the Sierra de los Filabres. Its charm lies in its narrow streets, its white village houses adorned with blossoms, and its endless sunshine. There are 5 restaurants, a bank, a mini-supermarket, a general store, a doctor's surgery, a chemist and a large municipal swimming pool open during the summer months. Walking in the blissful quiet of the countryside is one of the joys of staying in Bedar, and this part of Andalucia is a haven for the tortoise, the crested lark, the wild boar, the ibix and the Spanish fox. There is nothing the Spanish love more than fiestas which appear at regular intervals throughout the year and you cannot enter the village without saying hola to everyone you meet. Bedar is 20 minutes away from the resort of Mojacar Playa and Mojacar Pueblo (Mojacar village) with its panoramic views. Nearby is the village of El Pinar, and small towns Los Gallardos, Turre & the fishing port Garrucha
There are 4 golf courses within a short drive. Valle Del Este Golf, one of Spain's unique courses, is an 18 hole PGA course situated just outside Vera. This desert course with is island trees and fairways has some great changes of elevation making the course exciting to experience. Between Garrucha and Mojacar is Marina del Torre Golf. The 18 hole course design includes 3 lakes strategically situated and the wonderful views change throughout the course. Desert Springs Golf is situated between the reservoir at Cuevas del Almanzora and the charming fishing village of Villaricos. The springs, watercourses, dry river beds, rock, cactus areas and sand traps are strategically placed throughout the course. Desert Springs captures the essence of what it is that sets golf apart from other sports. Cortijo Grande Golf, once a farming estate, has been transformed into a 9 hole golf course, still abundant with oranges, lemons, grapes and figs. This is a very popular and challenging course.
There are many scented promenades if you choose to walk in Bedar, El Pinar, Los Gallardos and surrounding areas. A mining area until the 1920s you will find evidence of caves, once lived in by the workers, and a railway track, now defunct, which constitutes an interesting walk where you will see the odd tunnel cut through the mountain side or a huddle of stones that may have been an engine house. If you leave Bedar and head through the hills towards La Serena and El Campico you will experience the solitude of the tiny villages and hamlets and see (and smell!) the goat farm in El Campico. But to counteract that you can wander through the hills and marvel at the space, peace and beauty of the mountains and brush your way through rosemary, thyme and sage growing wild and releasing a heady perfume. The older villagers still collect these herbs for their traditional dishes. Some of the walks are displayed on notice boards throughout the villages.

FANTASTIC!
We stayed here last August and we had a fantastic time. We had a death in the family and was not sure we were going to be able to go on holiday. Shirley went above and beyond the call of duty. Shirley was so helpful with organising a car for us (as again we could not book a car as it was touch and go wheather we would get to Bedar). Shirley was also so helpful with her advise on local walks, restaurants etc. Casa Solana was perfect in every way, stunning views, spotlessly clean, also plently of information regarding the local area (a first for us and we have rented many times in Spain and never had any local maps let alone information on the area). The village of Bedar is beautiful and the best place we have stayed in Spain in terms of spanish feel, fabulous walks, views to die for and the locals really make an effort to speak to you and encourage you to speak spanish. The local market was lovely too as was the local restaurants. We cannot fault this holiday at all and would recommend to others. We would definately go back. Thank you once again Shirley for all your help prior to our holiday which was much needed after all we went through. Superb Holiday!
We loved our stay in Bedar and had a wonderful holiday. Casa Solana is superb and everything we could possibly have wanted was there, thank you! We're really missing having breakfast overlooking the mountains and sea and would certainly hope to return.
Bedar is a lovely village and we were lucky to be there for the annual three day fiesta, it was also a perfect location as a starting point for 'days out'. We did the circular walk which was great, the most amazing views - having clocked it on the pedometer at about 8 miles we felt quite pleased with ourselves!
Being great animal lovers we also became temporary 'dog walkers' at PAWS the local animal welfare shelter (about 10 mins drive from Casa Solana) and attended one of their fund raising evenings. If you're not already aware of the charity their shop is on the front at Mojacar.
A wonderful Holiday
My partner and I stayed in the villa mid-January 2009 and had a wonderful time. The villa is spacious, bright and airy and very clean and well maintained. We spent many a happy afternoon just basking lazily on the sun terrace which has some fabulous views of the surrounding area.
The village of Bedar is very quaint and typically Spanish and has some splendid restaurants.
For anyone who likes a little more activity the walking around Bedar and the surrounding area is ideal. The village is within driving distance of many of the surrounding villages and is an ideal place to set up base camp.
I definately recommend Casa Solana and will staying again next year.
Casa solana - Perfect Holiday
Date of Stay: July 2008
We had a wonderful holiday at Casa Solana. The newly furnished villa is very well equipped with all modern amenities. All rooms are spotlessly clean and bright. The fabulous roof terrace with outdoor dining furniture and sun loungers has spectacular views. We enjoyed the easy walk through the village to the restaurants and small supermarket etc. yet we were also within an easy drive of the beach and the Moorish town of Mojacar. We can honestly say that our stay was totally relaxing in the idyllic and typically Spanish village of Bedar. We will definitely be recommending Casa Solana to our family and friends and we will be returning as soon as possible!
