Foothills of the Pirin mountains.The beautiful alpine region offers the intrigue of its ancient town together with providing superb winter sports facilities for both novice and expert.. In 2009 Bansko will host an event in the prestigious world cup skiing and the resort has been completely updated in preparation for this event. Bansko also applied to host the winter Olympics for 2014, once again creating massive investment in the skiing infrastructure in the area.
To the south of Bansko is the Pirin national park which is listed in the UN list of national parks and reservations.The park covers over 27,400 ha and is famous for many things such as its lakes, caves,waterfalls and century old trees.

There are cheap flights available from all UK airports and EasyJet have just announced their budget flight from Gatwick to Sofia for just £27.99 one way!! Many others can be found through usual search engines.
COACH from Sofia central bus station to Bansko costs approximately 5 euros and takes around 3 hours.
TAXI - from Sofia to Bansko costs approximately 70 - 80 euros, (150-170 return), and takes around 2.5 hours
