Newly-built Casa Convento provides stylish luxury and comfort on 3 floors for a '5-star holiday' in a quiet, beautiful setting with the village, hills and sea view below and the National Park right behind. Created and furnished by the designer owner using the very best 'ingredients' with 2 huge (32/34sq.m.) en-suite bedrooms, complete with silk curtains, down pillows and dimmer lights. Their bathrooms have power-showers, baths and double basins, proper hair-dryers + robes and slippers! A panoramic 3rd floor open-plan living space and large dining terrace (+ cargo lift, so no need to carry up shopping!), separate spacious roof terrace with luxury sun-loungers, shower and shade sail, and a romantic, small private 'Moorish' pool with 'fountain spout'. The house is set up for all-year round rental with air-conditioning, underfloor heating and a log fire. Casa Convento has the advantage of being part of the delightful 'pueblo blanco' of Canillas de Aceituno, while maintaining its own intimate atmosphere, peace and privacy, but the beaches and bustle of the coast are only 20 minutes beautiful drive away. FREE WIFI INTERNET. Daily cleaning service/gourmet meal can be arranged. Sorry, no kids under 10.
20 mins from the buzz of Costa del Sol and Torre del Mar brings you to the peace and spectacular scenery of traditional Spain where dazzling white-washed villages cling to the hillsides and the sights and scenery enchant year-round. Here lies the Axarquia region with a reputation for the best climate in Europe which, steeped in history, has much to offer for exploration and sense-of-place, from the plethora of traditional villages to the Nerja Caves' magical formations. Malaga has a beautiful historical centre - and excellent shopping - while Antequera and Granada are within exploring range. The beautiful drive from the coast brings you to Sierra Tejeda National Park and Canillas where potted flowers decorate the side-streets, mules and goats studiously ignore humanity and the village ladies practice their flamenco. Walk, paint, photograph, picnic, listen to cicadas, taste local wine, sample village specialities – or simply enjoy the tranquillity and comfort of Casa Convent .

Wonderful house in heart of unspoilt white village
Date of Stay: July 2010
Casa Convento is exactly as described and shown in the pictures - beautiful! Everything is provided for a wonderful comfortable holiday - including super-comfy beds - and the owner even provides beach towels; a lovely touch so you don't have to lug them in your suitcase! The house has been very thoughtfully designed, including the provision of a dumb waiter to assist in taking things upstairs, and the owner's personal style shines through in the carefully chosen fixtures and fittings - it is so welcoming that you feel at home as soon as you arrive. Canillas itself is a very friendly village with some shops and bars and a couple of very good restaurants and plenty of information is available in the house regarding trips to neighbouring areas such as the coastal towns and further afield, to places such as Cordoba, which is well worth a visit. The pool is secluded and very welcome in the heat. All in all a very relaxing holiday destination. The owner's customer service was excellent as were the services provided by the couple who maintain the property in Spain. I would definitely recommend this property - you will come home feeling very refreshed!
Superb House in Axarquia
Date of Stay: July 2010
Much praise must be heaped upon Suzanne for her house both in style & design; so much has been made of what is a relatively small area - though you would never think it as it's all so spacious! The photos are an excellent representation of the house, the bathrooms aren't shown but they are really lovely; spacious and modern with superb power showers. The addition of hairdryers is a boon and the towels are large and thick (as are the beach towels).
The kitchen is superbly stocked (apart from a fish slice?!), the terrace leading off is nicely furnished with a decent size BBQ grill a massive umbrella and THE most amazing view towards the village, the lake & mountains. The living area is spacious airy & comfy, with great a/c (which you need mid-summer!) and the dumb waiter to the top floor in an inspiration which helps the perspiration! It is excellently equipped - nice little sound system. Quite a few CDs & DVDs to watch. UK TV as well (we wanted it for the F1!). There are also a couple of novels and a fabulous book of photos of Canillas and a Spanish dictionary!
We stayed in the 1st floor bedroom which is delightful - lovely silk curtains with lining to keep the bright sun out in the morning if you need a lie-in (like on Monday 13 July after Spain won the World Cup...!) 2 nice balconies to take in the beautiful vista or simply watch the world go by. Adjacent to the bedroom is the utility room with a washing machine and loo/shower. The downstairs bedroom looked lovely - nicer in some ways (bigger and a lovely chaise) than the other, though there are no balconies with big windows.
The hallway leads you through to the gem of the house - the cooling swimming pool! It's great when you get home after a hike up to the house to just strip off and jump in! The sun is there for most of the afternoon but part of the pool is always in shade (in July anyway) which is excellent to enable one to stay in the pool but not burn!
All in all, we loved the house. Our one sticky moment came when we tried to turn in the square past the house - our car is sports & there wasn't enough ground clearance for us so we had to reverse - which was tricky in the heat. The clutch didn't thank us!
The village is fabulous - La Sociedad is recommended for food and drinks. We took Suzanne's advice and ate at Bahia Tanit in Torre del Mar - also good!
If you book, you won't regret it - just prepare yourself for some hilly walks and driving! Don't forget the camera!
Casa Convento
Date of Stay: March 2010
Canillas de Aceituno is a charming and unspoilt village some way up from the coast, and involving a picturesque, but winding drive. The area is ideal for mountain walking, bird watching and visiting isolated villages. Going at the end of March we had some warm, sunny weather, although the nights were clear and chilly but a lovely log fire kept us cosy in the living area.
The villa lives up to the beautiful photographs on the internet, and the design is such that five of us could feel completely comfortable in the spacious accommodation. The kitchen is very well equipped, and the owner thoughtfully provides soap, shower gel and loo paper in all the bathrooms, as well as slippers, bathrobes and lovely large beach towels, which makes packing so much easier.
We thoroughly recommend Casa Convento as a wonderful away-from-it-all holiday location, and came home feeling well rested and refreshed.
